what type of deck and what signal type. have you checked the signal via a monitor?
you have to set the input source via the control panel.

Those drivers would be in the archive under https://www.aja.com/en/support/legacy/io/
since those drivers have not been updated in 2 years.
Uninstall the AJa tools then re-install the legacy software and make sure there is nothing else on the FW buss at all.

Well that is not going to be the case for the future.
Adding internally, something that less than 20% of all users want/ need is not the way laptops are going, certainly not from Apple.
I am wonderfully happy that I no longer have to carry around a 8 lb laptop on my shoulder, even with the extra cable and connector I still keep my Retina laptop under 5lb total.
did I mention it is blazing fast too?

HDSDI signals are most traditionally carried as interlace or progressive segmented frame in 1080.

Sonnet makes a working Express card reader that I use almost daily. Handles Sony SxS cards and 3/4 xpress adapters like those for FW, eSata and card readers, works like a charm. I bought mine for less than $150.
Only drawback for me, is now I carry a bunch of $50 cables instead of cheap FW ones.

Umm, what is the issue? The Retina display can handle it, Smoke 2012 works too.
I have my R-MBP set to 1920×1080 and am not having any issues with any app not working.

there are any number of ways that your setup can slow down data transfers or editing in general.
Block Size – adjusting the media block size when formatting a drive can effect speed most drives by default segment volumes in fairly small block sizes. FAT32 uses a blocks as small as 4k, and that can be problematic when you have to read and write files that are Gigabytes in size, but can waste space when using smaller files.
raid level this is a big one, yes RAID 0 is fast and RAID 1 is slow, finding a place where redundancy is offset by speed is always a difficult process. I work with my portable systems in RAID 6 where I can loose 2 drives without loss of data ( but a much longer rebuild time)
Another thing that can be done is limit other software from infringing on resources, Itunes and safari both rob low powered systems of needed resources.
