[Rafael Amador] “Right. You can open the AJA and the BM, but not the Apple 10b. “

    Nope Rafael.

    Jeremy is correct.

It is possible to read the apple 10bit UC codec on windows or linux as as 2Vuy in both 8 or 10bit since apples default compression uses a standard DCT compression schema, however it is not called Apple 10bit in windows.

November 21, 2009 at 3:23 pm in reply to: Help with trying to go HD, emphasis on key matte

[Mark Warren] “If so, would you recommend I stay away from ProRes and opt more for some other codec? And are you also saying that the 100 MBit MPEG from your NanoFlash is better than ProRes, correct?”

If your working in FCP, do not work in MPEG based workflows, Tim in a PC guy and while those 8 bit Mpeg files my play well on a PC, ProRes is always 10bit color and designed from the ground up to be optimized for FCP.

And Contrary to Tim’s comment about the IoHD only being available for FCS2,
The IoHD software has been updated for FCS3. The AJA Software update had to wait for a fix available in the 7.01 FCP from Apple.

November 20, 2009 at 4:13 pm in reply to: Audio Level recording questions

[Michael Moser] “I monitored the sound and it didn’t evidence any distortion.
Monitor setting was in the middle…not at max. I usually record mono feeds with one down slightly to take care of any surprises. “

I was working on a 10 KiPro Capture project and could not answer.

if you are using the audio monitor metering you need to be above that to peak the peak on the VU meters, I have asked for the aja guys but to me it looks like the RED LED in the meters indicates something closer to -3db rather than 0db for the analog input.

for digital inputs they should run a touch lower.

November 20, 2009 at 1:26 pm in reply to: Quick p.s.f. query

[Will Snow] “But in terms of a final graded digital master, I was thinking the best thing would be to have it on 1920×817 (the 2.35:1 aspect ratio) TIFF image sequence, plus a lossless movie file.”

I hope you have a lot of storage. ALOT,

and if you send anything to a festival other than a standard video format – Nothing will play the file.

November 20, 2009 at 1:21 pm in reply to: Ki PRO Newbie Question

[Danny Grizzle] “Is Ki PRO useful for offline data wrangling, unloading SxS cards to HD? “

The unit is designed to capture baseband video in to Apple ProRes.
It is not designed to handle Sony’s proprietary SxS cards or to transcode previously captured materials.

A future software release will allow 3/4 express cards to be usable in the KiPro Unit, they are not enabled today.

November 20, 2009 at 1:07 am in reply to: AJA I/O HD on my MacPro LAG!!

[Jamie Baker] “I am having an issue where when I have the AJA IOHD running my internal and external hard drives lag when I go to open them the first time after system boot.”

    OK.
you don;t say but you cannot run the IoHD and a FW hardrive on the same computer at the same time without adding a additional FW card to the machine in some manner.

if you are running both the IoHD and the drives off your computer, I am glad that you got it to “work”.

November 19, 2009 at 1:35 pm in reply to: Quick p.s.f. query

[Will Snow] “So p.s.f. is really something created within the tape decks etc? “

    an explanation. https://forums.creativecow.net/readpost/193/875880

PsF has to do more with Movie-like presentations fitting into broadcast, not just NTSC, PAL formats are PsF also.

    “I’m working in 23.976 (or 23.98) progressive,”

WARNING- this are NOT the same frame rate in AE!
while final cut says 23.98, AE compatible content is needed to be 23.976 to match.

November 18, 2009 at 1:05 pm in reply to: FCP 2K Timeline Realtime and Not Realtime?

[Liam Ward] “I really don’t know what else to try, any help/suggestions would be appreciated. “

My list of needs would be

Which version of 2K raster? Red shoots not standard 2Kx1024 which is not a standard SMPTE frame raster.

You do not mention what codec you are editing in, how your Color is set for output, are you using the “Send to” and “Return to” settings?

    [Dan Daube] “Harry,
Yes indeed this is a messy one. Rule of thumb perhaps as there’s no definitive rule”
