February 6, 2011 at 9:45 pm in reply to: Attn BM: business model proposal for new features

    Hey Blase ,
That is the jim jannard (red digital cinema owner) model!…

I would not mind at all pay for upgrades that have those kind of big new features

I think that resolve being at 1k price Brought in (and I respect everybody off course) so many non professional colorist that make the all support list or inquires or features request a bit of a caos …

So being a “professional” colorist I would not mind have the BMD theam being open to “big updates ” that require to pay money .

So if that is they to have resolve growing versus a commercial multimeline and more conforming tools features … I am in .

Because as I said in the other thread ,we should not consider resolve as 1K system … (I spent 40K on resolve on a Mac and others in Linux spent 120K)…

  • that is the point projects are starting to get graded in flame because of teh multilayer timeline and the easy to conform (and i mean just rebuild the FCP timeline) feature …

Ola: i will post a picture of the kind of timeline i get all the time (mostly happen in fashion)

to try defend sascha: well he was saying that there is various tool for each job , but his mistake was consider resolve an app that cost 1K ….well actually resolve is a 150K system because the lynux one have the same features , and even mine on mac costed 40K (including the panel) , so i guess is our dusty inform BMD that today 2011 we need multy layer timeline because many jobs are made that way

And about performance : Yes render DPX in a background on temp folder is the way to go : i do this with scratch all the time :each project have a render folder and when i hit render (not render out for delivery) scartch create DPX of the timeline (or just that shot) , so i can play back realtime no matter how many layer , than if i touch the grade again , the flag that show that the shot is rendered disappear and if i hit render it overwrite the previous DPX ….easy and extremely efficient …

    Hope BMD is listening …

  • Margus what is the point of you post ?
Why being negative and “against” a request that is actually insanely needed in the commercial workflow where editorn never use 1 layer watsoever …

Is more important see what’s going on on the edit to take color decision than have rock solid realtime (off course who would expect realtime when 4 layers gets blended??)…but grading separated shots instead of
dissolved shots together does not produce a good color
results . The point is ,as a today I have davinci and Scratch and color and for all this kind of commercial davinci is the worse and color the best ,and is better sacrifice performance and use color than sacrifice the results + 2 days of reconfirming issue and use davinci …scratch can composite multinlayer but is not optimized yet (multiple layer timeline is coming there )

  • Yes features are fine (usually straight cuts )…but commercial are a mess !!! (and music video too in my experience )

Do you see storm multitimeleine useful to integrate with resolve ? Or just a standalone product to grade itself ?

    Thanks

  • Hi sascha,
Well my resolve coated 40K actually (software +resolve panel+ macpro+ various cards )…
I am not pretending tools to compositing in the sense of “””special effect matte””” etc…I am talking mutilated timeline for reproduce the edit and grade …I don’t think is a incredible Request (even apple Color have a multilayer timeline …)

So a basic mutilated timeline with possibility to apply voss dissolves …that’s it …and is not really a “becoming flame request “…

    Thanks …

well maybe stills should have the option to copy marks as well (mostly for safety reason) … if anyone from Davinci i guess it’s a FEATURE REQUEST …

    thanks

    Hi rohit ,

i do have the Davinci Panel ,and i can;t find any documentation about this keys combination like

    -,+ripple value

Does exist any resources to learn this kind of combination ?

For example ? is it possible that there is no button for Apply a grade from a still ?

    Thanks
