Thanks for the information Keith. I will look at that site. Have you had any experience with Cinema 4D? I want a 3D application, too, but something with an accesabile interface.

The issue seems to be related to Quick Time 7. I visited the Apple website and went to the discussions. From what I read it apparently has to do something with a missing desktop component file. There is a sollution to this, though somewhat akward. Place your mouse cursor over the play button in the canvas. Don’t move the mouse or anything. Next press Command-F12 then click on the mouse. This issue is non-existent in FCP 5. Let me know if this works.

You won’t be able to do this effect in Motion as it lacks (pardon the pun) motion tracking. You would need to use a program such as After Effects, Shake or Combustion to do this. A plug-in may be available for Motion to do this, but I am not aware of any.

In the FCP menu select system settings. You will now be taken to your scratch disk settings. Just click the “set” button on each of the itmes in the dialog box and choose where you want your files to be. Should take less then a minute to complete. Also, any time you save a project file do it as a “save as”. This will reduce the possibiltiy of project files becoming corrupt. Hope this helps and welcome to the world of Final Cut Pro!

I find the text tools in FCP to be easier to use then Avid, though Avid gives you some other options. I would suggest Live Type or Motion.

I would upgrade to Tiger. So far I have had only a couple of very minor “issues.” FCP 5 is going on my machine tonight. Took me three visits to the Apple store to get my hands on the upgrade. This thing is selling like hot cakes!

I had a “save as” problem under Combustion the first time I ran it after the 10.4.1 update. Now it seems to be working fine. I noticed a sligthly longer delay when powering up my LaCie firewire drives. Safari works better under Tiger — faster and more responsive.

FCP 5 and FCP Studio should be on the shelf today in the Apple Store.
