BTW, I am in the midst of reading some good stuff in the archives regarding using a cheaper mini dv cam as a deck. But if anyone has any info or opinions they’d like to offer up, I’m listening.

Is the “drum hours” the same as the “hour meter”? (Information found in the “Other Functions” portion of the camera menu)
I’ve already got 114 hours racked up on my DVX since November.Follow-up question: Can anyone recommend a sensible mini dv camera that I can use at a capture/output deck, so I don’t have to put stress on the DVX? I’m tempted to go to Radio Shack and get a low-budget Panasonic model. ($350-400)

I would strongly second the GL2. It will work good in low light, and has a better zoom than the DVX, if say, you had to set up the camera from across the room.

That’s a great suggestion, but what if I’m only using a mini DV cam, and don’t have a DV deck?

Right on. I just got my check in the mail yesterday. Once you submit the paperwork, be prepared to wait a few months!

I could be wrong, but I think the deal expired at the end of October. That might be why you can’t find any links on the Panasonic website. I hope I’m wrong for your sake.
