    Hello,

I’m just wondering if it is possible and what I would need to run a monitor or small television out of a G4 (733mhz) with FCP 4.5. (Also, viewing After Effects projects wouldn’t hurt either!)

Right now I’m using a single 20″ monitor for my workspace, but it would be nice to see what I’m working on on a small monitor. I’d probably need specific video card/cables etc, but which ones?

I’m obviously no engineer, so I apologize for my lack of knowledge on the subject. I’m just used to working in edit suites where everything is already “set up”, now I want to acheive the same thing at home.

If my setup discription is too vague, I could post more info.

    Thanks,
    Scott

The easiest option if you are cutting DV is to run your firewire cable to your DV deck, and from there to your TV/monitor. The deck will do the D/A conversion, as long as you have External Video set to All Frames within FCP.

That’s a great suggestion, but what if I’m only using a mini DV cam, and don’t have a DV deck?

Take the video outputs from the camera. Either S-Video or composite to the TV.

Make sue the firewire is going to the computer.
