June 15, 2009 at 3:18 pm in reply to: “This project is unreadable or may be too new for this version of FCP”What I meant was I opened the project on a different system – that had the same version software as the system that previously given me the error. That’s when I realized that it probably was some sort of permissions problem.
The best advice I can give is to try to find a system that WILL open the project, and then save it out as a new project. That worked for me.

Thanks for all the input. I’m a “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” kinda guy. That pretty much explains my reasoning for still being on 5.0.4.
irie…interesting.

Assuming that you are capturing clips already logged as 4:3, you need to change you capture settings. Example (DV NTSC ANAMORPHIC). Also make sure you select “capture at current settings” To change you capture settings, go to the drop drown menu underneath machine control drop down menu on the second or third tab of the log and capture tool settings. It can also be changed in the capture tab of the audio/video settings.

In general, the color red is gives NTSC fits. I’m not an expert in this area, so if you are new to the video realm and have a print background, you may just not yet be adjusted to the limits of the medium. Are you editing in DV codec? You will get a little more tolerance to RED out of 10 BIT Uncompressed.

Assuming that Apple packaged a hardware test with the Quad system you purchased. I would use it to Check everything including RAM. It will even identify which stick is bad. There’s a usually a quick check and a slower more comprehensive test. I would start with quick one first becuase the other can be quite lengthy depending on how much RAM you have installed on your machine.
You have to boot up from the disk that contains the Hardware test and it’s pretty self explanatory from there.

I have had no problems with the LaCie D2 line as long as you go no larger than 250 Gg. I’ve used them on my G5 and a G4 powerbook with DVCAM projects editing with FCP. I always connect via FW 800 and although I have daisy chained multiple drives, I do not RAID them together.

It’s not really a money issue. It’s more of a comfort thing. My system is sooo solid right now. The thought of screwing with such a delicate balance is not that enticing. Maybe I’ll just buy another drive and have two separate bootable configs.
