1) are you sure that your MOV file was working before using Vegas?
2) what did you use to view your MOV file, apart from Vegas?Frederic

September 6, 2011 at 11:00 am in reply to: Sony Vegas 9 – Controlling timeline from Plug-inHi,
I do not assert anything here as I have never developped DirectX plug-ins, however as far as I could read in the SDK documentation, there is no access to the Vegas framework from within a plug-in.
Also, if I remember correctly, one of the new features of OFX (added in VP 10), was the ability to browse between frames from with the plug-in. Even though this is not directly related to what you want to do, this might confirm my first assumption.
Rather than developing a plug-in, couldn’t you develop a script or an extension? I am pretty sure the scripting API provides control over the timeline.
Hope this helps,
Frederic—

Hi,
[Works on Movie Studio 10 – I did not test it on 11, but should be the same]
On the top of the preview window, you have 2 buttons that should help:
– one let you save the current frame to either JPG or PNG
– another one puts the current frame in the clipboardYou should take care of the displayed resolution as it will impact the resolution of what you export.
Hope this helps,
Frederic—

Thanks Steve – it’s my pleasure to develop, and it’s my pleasure to edit videos, so… 🙂
I would like to publicly address a few questions:
What is the performance gain?
The plug-ins performance gain is about 10 times faster between using an i7 950 and a nVidia GTX 460. Of course, this number should be handled with care, as it may depend from many other factors than just the CPU and the GPU. But fore sure, it’s what I have measured. For a given graphics card, the slower your CPU, the bigger the gain
For a given CPU, the faster your graphics card, the bigger the gainIf you want to know how it would behave for you, just ask me to get the beta 🙂
What’s next?
I am packaging the beta versions of the plug-ins. It should be ready for download pretty soon.Best regards,
Frederic

Mike, you are going to make me turn to red 🙂 (French expression to say I feel embarrassed with your nice answer, not sure it makes sense in English…)

Thank you very much Mike!
I think this internal prefs panel is probably the place where I have seen that this was doable. Definitely I wouldn’t have found it again without you !!
Thanks again,

September 4, 2011 at 10:17 am in reply to: Switching Vegas HD Platinum interface languageregedit is a Windows system tool. Just go to the windows start menu, Execute… (or Run…) and type regedit, it will be launched.
However if you don’t know regedit, doing what I say is quite dangerous as you might corrupt your whole computer if you make a wrong change. Regedit gives you access to many many settings of everything in your PC. Using it without knowing it is not riskless.
Hope this helps anyway.

September 2, 2011 at 9:48 pm in reply to: Question about editing DSLR footage in Vegas.Hi,
as far as I know, Canon DSLRs encode to AVCHD, which is highly CPU-intensive to decode, so it makes Vegas and the CPU work hard while handling such files. AVCHD is highly compressed video. It can be encoded quickly (which is cool for DSLRs embedded CPUs), but the counterpart is that it requires lots of computing to decode.
For that reason, it might be better to transcode it to another format easier to process while decoding. For instance Cineform does that. I have also read that it was able to improve the quality, by making RGB channels more accurate, but I have never understood how this could be possible – the data is in the file, so if Cineform can find hidden bits, Vegas should be able to do it as well 🙂 Explanations welcome btw.
No idea about quality drop with mpeg, sorry.
Hope this helps,
Frederic—

August 30, 2011 at 1:46 pm in reply to: Vegas Movie Studio HD platinum 10: Refuses to open saved projectsForgot to mention that a third option (and cheaper) would be to upgrade to Movie Studio 11.
I did not test it, but I would be surprised they did not fix it (as they were aware of the problem when releasing Pro 10 last year – and they were advertising on the fix).

August 30, 2011 at 1:40 pm in reply to: Vegas Movie Studio HD platinum 10: Refuses to open saved projectsSorry to say that it looks like the usual problem…
For me both of the following worked:
– buy Cineform to use with Studio 10
– buy Vegas Pro 10
in both cases, I am pretty certain that the evaluation version are the same than the final version, except for the licensing. So it’s riskless to freely test if they fix your problem, and then purchase.
Hope this helps,
