Vegas Movie Studio HD platinum 10: Refuses to open saved projects
Hi everyone.
I’m bit of a newbie in editing and don’t understand much about computers.
I’m trying to open a project in Vegas and this message shows up:
I don’t have any other softwares running and I should have enough power in my computer.
I’m using:
Windows 7 Home Premium
Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2500 CPU @ 3,30GHz
8Gb Ram
64-bitWhere is the problem?

Hi,
this is unfortunately a common problem with Platinum, especially if you use AVCHD (including MOV files from Canon EOS cams for instance).
Several non-systematically-hepful recommendations:
– reduce the RAM assigned to preview in the Preferences dialog box of Vegas. This will give more RAM to Platinum to work.
– use Cineform Neoscene to convert your clips to AVI with a special encoding, which definitely help Vegas coping with your clips (which I did about 1 year ago)
– switch to Vegas Pro 64 bits (which I did 10 months ago).
The problem with Platinum is that it is a 32-bit app, so even though you run under Vista, with more than 2GB RAM, it will not be able to take benefit from this.

Oh well, no the same problem came while rendering. I’ve read that many has the same problem. Would updating to Vegas Pro help in this situation? I already tried CineForm, but only the free trial version. Don’t know if that matters.

Sorry to say that it looks like the usual problem…
For me both of the following worked:
– buy Cineform to use with Studio 10
– buy Vegas Pro 10
in both cases, I am pretty certain that the evaluation version are the same than the final version, except for the licensing. So it’s riskless to freely test if they fix your problem, and then purchase.

Forgot to mention that a third option (and cheaper) would be to upgrade to Movie Studio 11.
I did not test it, but I would be surprised they did not fix it (as they were aware of the problem when releasing Pro 10 last year – and they were advertising on the fix).
