Thanks for the screenshot. Clearer now.

I can see you have Vegas Pro 9, and that your clips are .MOV files.

With Vegas Pro 9 and AVCHD MOV files, there were some well-known memory issues. This might be the reason. You might go to the Preferences dialog box, and set the Preview RAM to 0, in order to have as much RAM as possible available for the program. It’s not a 100% sure method, but it sometimes help…

Do you have the green and black screens at the beginning when you start Vegas? or do you have them only a while after starting Vegas?

Sometimes, I have had red (not green, not black: red) frames with AVCHD/MOV clips, and I believe it was due to memory saturation.

You might try to open your project with Vegas Pro 10 (eval version) and see if you still have the same issue.

Could you also check the bitrate and let us know?

The lower the bitrate, the higher the compression, the higher the pixelation. So this might explain the phenomenon (but would not explain why it’s different between 2 screens).

I was going to ask you a screenshot, until I read the end of your post…

On some TVs you have a ‘freeze’ button letting you hold the current frame. If you have this feature, you might then take a shot of your screen and send it to the forum.

Very puzzled about how the DVD player is able to guess what is in the foreground, moreover if your movie does not have 3D information.

The only thing I am thinking of is that the player does some kind of down sampling, being limited in processing power. Then the most impacted parts of the picture could be the most moving ones.

Did you try to plug your PC (the one on which you run Windows Media Player) to your TV, instead of the DVD player?

Did you try to adjust the bitrate when rendering?

Hi,

I am not sure to understand what you exactly mean by “patch in its own background”. Could you please give more details.

Maybe one way would be to have 2 tracks, one being the duplicate of the other. Then you would pan the top-level track, leaving the other appear in the “hole”. But not sure this is what you want to do.

As you mention tutorials, I have no tutorial about masking, but one about pan/crop. You may follow the link below if you are not too frightened by my frenchy English accent 🙂

Not sure it will help much, however you might have a look at the log files ([user]AppDataSonyVegas Movie…

They usually contain detailed information helping understanding the cause of the crash.

Hi Byron,

If I understand your point correctly, you would like the two tracks to be locked to each other, so that when one moves, the other follows.

In this case, you might want to use parent/child tracks.

To do this, click the corner angled bottom arrow in the lower track (the neck track I believe, in your case). If this may help you find this arrow, it should be tooltipped “Create a compositing child” – not sure though, because I have a French version of Vegas, so I don’t know the exact English translation.

Doing this, you will set this track as a child of the other one (the Head track in your case).

Afterwards, the trackmotion settings of the parent track will be applied to the child tracks, in such a way that they will follow their parent.

Hope this is clear enough, and this corresponds to what you are looking for.

Envelopes let you control some properties of the events or tracks over time, like velocity, transparency, sound volume, sound balance between left and right.

I suggest that you type this keyword in the online help, and you will see how to use it.

Where do you find this setting (event, track, effects, …)? You have several places where you can control opacity.

It defines how transparent your event/track should be from 0 to 100%.
It is useful for instance to blend an event with another one.

How does your video look within the Preview window? also with black borders everywhere?

Did you try the “no black bands” (or whatever it is called in English version of Vegas) option in the render settings? (as far as I remember, it only applies to some output formats).

This problem may come from so many things, it would help to post your .VEG file.
