Sorry for coming back lately to this discussion – time lag + not at my desk until now…

@Theo: not sure to understand your remark. You say “the reference clip doesn’t match the original reference clip anymore”. Did you mean “the modified clip doesn’t match…”?

Anyway, the 2 pictures on the left, titled “reference clip”, are the same picture. They are even the same JPG file on my web server. So if they look different, I don’t know how to explain it… Maybe angle of vision to your screen? (and by the way on my screen, if I look at the picture with some angle it does look a bit desaturated).

If what you mean is that the picture on the right/bottom is less saturated than the reference clip (on the left/bottom or left/top), then this comes from the plug-in. And it’s all about which colour you pick when using the plug-in. A color picked in the event to which the FX is applied, is guaranteed to be transformed to the color you select as a “to become:” from the FX user interface.

Once you have picked these colours, you may still adjust them with the sliders, and for instance, locally increase/decrease the saturation around the picked point.

@Erik: I am sorry that you had this bad experience. As suggested by Nigel, please send me some stills at contact_at_fbmn-software.com, I would like to investigate what you say.

Also, you might have a look at the FAQ on the web site. It gives some hints on how to best use the plug-in, which I think are useful because the quality of the result depends on the way you feed it with matching pairs of colors.

Looking up this error with some development tools, I get in French “Le serveur a généré une exception.” -> The server has generated an exception.

Not much more helpful…

Did you look at your log files (usually in [user]AppDataLocalSonyVegas Pro10.0) ?

There are generally interesting information there, which might help you diagnose the problem.

Hi,

this is unfortunately a common problem with Platinum, especially if you use AVCHD (including MOV files from Canon EOS cams for instance).

Several non-systematically-hepful recommendations:

– reduce the RAM assigned to preview in the Preferences dialog box of Vegas. This will give more RAM to Platinum to work.

– use Cineform Neoscene to convert your clips to AVI with a special encoding, which definitely help Vegas coping with your clips (which I did about 1 year ago)

– switch to Vegas Pro 64 bits (which I did 10 months ago).

The problem with Platinum is that it is a 32-bit app, so even though you run under Vista, with more than 2GB RAM, it will not be able to take benefit from this.

If I can add a few words, on the FBmn Software site, there is a link to a use case showing how a user matched two videos with the White Balance plug-in.

However, in most cases, white-balancing the events from different cameras is not enough: even though the whites become real whites, it does not mean that reds will all be the same reds between cams.

That is the reason why several users have asked me to develop another plug-in devoted to color matching. Which I decided to do. It was in beta-test until yesterday, and I have got very good feedbacks in terms of quality of results, user-friendliness and stability. The final release should be available pretty soon, I will post another message when ready – there will be a free eval version valid for 7 days.

Did you check the log file(s), usually located in [user]\AppData\Sony?

They might give you some more explanations about the reason of the crash.

Also, quite a generic suggestion: did you check that your hard disk is not full?

Not sure to understand your question, but here are two attempts of an answer:

1) use the trimmer to set the in/out points, then put the result on the timeline

2) drag the video to the timeline (oops, you will temporarily have the whole video on the timeline), then clic-and-drag each end to move them to the in- and out- points.

Thanks for this comment which I find quite interesting.

I have posted a few benchmarks last October about AVCHD rendering with Vegas Movie Studio 10 (including GPU), Vegas Pro, and Premiere Pro (search for my name + GPU to find the threads on this forum).

How did you solve your cooling issue? by changing the fan? something else? I will have a look to this hwmonitor tool.

Would you know if one can boost the GPU usage as well, with more cooling applied to the GPU? (should not be that easy to change this, I guess).

– available RAM
– Windows 32 or 64 bit
