Is there a way to insert only a part of a video, for example, i have a full movie and i don’t want to insert the whole movie into the timeline and then cut out the part that i want, is there a way to select a portion of time of the video wich i want to insert?
And no, i can’t record the part that i want in some screen capture program, because my video card sucks and it records in a bad quality…
    Thanks in advance!

    What is the source media?
The only way to do this in Vegas is to open the media in a new Vegas project, create a region over the area you want to keep and use “render as” to create an intermediate file.

Not sure to understand your question, but here are two attempts of an answer:

    1) use the trimmer to set the in/out points, then put the result on the timeline

    2) drag the video to the timeline (oops, you will temporarily have the whole video on the timeline), then clic-and-drag each end to move them to the in- and out- points.

    Hope this helps anyway,
    Frédéric

It depends on what the OP wants. By simply moving the in/out or start/end on the timeline, the whole video is still there. I read the OP as saying he only wanted a fragment of video from the original media.

[Dan Cordero] ” i have a full movie and i don’t want to insert the whole movie into the timeline and then cut out the part that i want, is there a way to select a portion of time of the video wich i want to insert?”

As Frederic said, right-click the media in the Explorer window and select Open in Trimmer. The trimmer is where you can preview the video and select only the parts you want to be placed on the timeline.

As Stephen pointed out, the whole file will be associated with the project because this is non-destructive, but that’s the easiest workflow for inserting sections of larger files. Otherwise you would have to re-render sections if you only wanted small pieces of physical media associated with the project. I didn’t interpret the OP to mean that but it’s certainly possible they did.

You cna also drag the edges of a video event to shorten it to the desired length.
