For injesting, we do it all the time with BVW-75’s Component&XLR-Audio in to a DSR-2000 then DSR-2000 SDI into the Kona.

Of course the 9 pin it connected to the BVW-75.

No audio sync issues, no machine controll issues.

My mistake, I thought the S2 was firewire.

Do any of these external SATA Raid boxes RAID 3 or 5?

There was a time when disk were very expensive thus making RAID10 costly. I supose there is no longer any need for RAID 3 or 5 if RAID10 is so cost effective.

–If I raided the two lacies together would would that be sufficient for uncompressed 1080p?
No, Firewire raids will not be fast enough for uncompressed HD

–I have heard that for uncompressed you need 3TB of space I guess I’m hoping we could get away with this for the time being as we already own the one.
Size is only one consideration, speed is the other. It just will not work for uncompressed HD

You don’t need an enclosure, you have 4 SATA slots in you Mac Pro.

Get a 250GB ATA drive and put it on the ATA bus, mounted it in the second optical drive bay. Use this drive as your start up OS and Applications drive, it will be fine. Now you have four open SATA slots for the 750GB drives. Please note that these drives must have the newest firmware installed.

Yes, I too can cimfirm that if you install 5.4, do not uninstall 5.4, then Custom install 5.2.4 and select all items to install, it works… Both After Effects and FCP.

    SD files will be fine.

How will you play back HD files without and HD card, other than just on your FCP canvas?

December 30, 2005 at 2:52 pm in reply to: XRAID striping with Kona LH

RAID 50 means you would use the 2 RAID 5 units stripped together, with software, into a single RAID 0.

This gives you the added performance needed for uncompressed HD.

The individual RAID 5 units will work ok for SD until they get close to full.

Just a shot in the dark,

You may need to repair permissions on the startup drive.
