  • Same for DVD Studio Pro and Compressor

    Previous versions are gone.

This is not necessarily a bad thing, this is different behavior than previous installers.

May 20, 2005 at 12:02 am in reply to: Got FCP5 – but will it work with Kona2?

We have been running 10.3.9 for some time now, with no OS issues.

I have just installed FCP 5.0 on one of our system (10.3.9 not 10.4) and it appears Ok so far.

Is it safe? Are you in the middle of a project? NO do not change anything.

Is it safe? Do you have a day or two to work out any issues with your installation? Yes go for it.

    Fred

    P.S. Per AJA Kona-2 is Tiger/FCP5.0 ready.

175MB/s from four SCSI drives striped accross the two channels of an Ultra 160 (UL3D) is very good, but not enough for uncompressed 1080i 8bit. You will need to go to Ultra 320 (UL4D) with Ultra SCSI drives – 5 or more on each side or two Raid arrays like Medea or Huge and a G5 with a 133Mhz PCIx slot.

“We are hearing that it is nearly impossible to put OSX on a new Tiger system.”

    Not True.

We are running 10.3.9 on new dual 2.7Ghz G5’s because Tiger has some issues with our disk arrays.

    Great question Chris.

There are exactly zero media outlets here in New England that accept HD spots.

It is always a BAD idea to upgrade in the middle of a project.

If you must start now then you should finish your project in FCP 4.5 and upgrade to FCP 5 after completion.

You have already said your output must be WMF.

If you want to output QuickTime files then convert to WMF, use Apple Animation or Apple None.

You can then use CompressionMaster makes very nice WMFs from QuickTime files.

Flip4Mac from TeleStream will allow you to export WMF directly from FinaCut.

You choose the amount of compression for the final output.

Higher Compresion = Smaller files, Lower Quality
