[Jack Watts] “Check this out. It will do nicely and is pci.

    Graphics Card

That card is not PCI, it’s PCI-E. There’s a huge difference.

I prefer to export uncompressed, then use either Sorrenson Squeeze or Procoder to convert.

  • Have you tried using the “Secret” settings to purge frames during render? It’ll take longer to render, but at least you don’t run out of RAM during your render.

[Ty Ford] “Sorry to be so ignorant. That’s what we US folks do best. 🙂

I don’t see a video on that link.”

Would that be the video with Roger Dahl in it?

[Dave LaRonde] “written English rather than internet-speak”

Yes, those chatrooms have a lot to answer for. Broken English from a non-English speaker I can handle, but this “internet-speak” really gets on my nerves.

February 15, 2008 at 11:53 am in reply to: Bending a rectangle to create a curve???

Your post isn’t real clear on what you want to do.

Do you just want to create a rectangle (shape layer), then bend it?

    Puppet tool, Mesh warp, etc.

Or, are you trying to create something 3d?

As you can see, everybody’s got a different mental picture of what you’re asking for.

    Please clarify.

Why do people wait until the last minute before asking for help?

Surely, it’s not a matter of pride?

I’d much rather seek help early, finish the project, then take pride in the finished product.

Let’s face it, missing a deadline is nothing to be proud of.

  • Take a look at Aharon’s puppet tool tutorial:

    https://library.creativecow.net/articles/rabinowitz_aharon/CC_puppet_particles.php

It’s to do with air flow over a moving vehicle, but the same principles could be applied to your flame particles.

[david bogie] “Do you need super realism, photo realism, realism, naturalism, or abstraction?”

Well, I don’t think realism would be achievable. As far as I know, penguins can’t talk. But then, I’m a little behind when it comes to current trends in animal behavior.

January 27, 2008 at 12:25 am in reply to: AE 7 vs CS3?

I’ve just played with CS3 for the first time, and I’ve gotta say, “WOW!”

Things that used to take me hours now take minutes, thanks to the new Puppet tool. No more do I have to take a file into photoshop, cut it up, place each piece on its own layer, import to AE, move anchor points, then animate. A few puppet pins, and start animating, followed by a few final tweaks.

Haven’t played with shape layers yet, but in my opinion, the Puppet tool makes the switch worthwhile.
