October 2, 2012 at 10:45 pm in reply to: Format an External Hard Drive to use on MAC and PCHere’s an update… I used the Seagate drive for all of two weeks and it’s not POWERING UP. I hear they acquired or are in the process of acquiring LaCie. That doesn’t sound good to me at all. With that being said, any external drive recommendations.

Shooting with DSLR means huge project files to backup. When I was using FCP I kept RAW on one drive and the project transcoded on another. Now, I’ll have to just backup on another drive. Thanks for reminding me Walter!

8) The only glitch was it has to re-render.
9) Next will be doing some editing, save and open on my MAC and see where I stand.Stay Tuned 🙂

September 25, 2012 at 8:19 pm in reply to: Format an External Hard Drive to use on MAC and PCSeagate GoFlex 2TB External Drive “MAC and Windows PC” Shared Drive Premier CS6 Test
1)The drive came in preformatted with an NTFS for a Windows PC
2)I mounted the drive on my Windows PC and went through the registration process, then ejected the drive.
3)I then mounted the same drive on a MAC, registered it on the MAC, and went through the MacInstall steps. Note: the install on the MAC includes a Paragon Driver, but it is only functional with the Seagate Drive.
4)I’m copying a 124GB project I started on my MAC to the Seagate Drive. It will take a couple hours for that to happen.Stay Tuned 🙂

September 25, 2012 at 4:24 pm in reply to: Format an External Hard Drive to use on MAC and PCI figured I’d give this a try? If it doesn’t work, the drive will still be useful. I ordered a Seagate 2 TB USB 3.0 FreeAgent GoFlex Desk External Drive. The Paragon driver is a utility that is offered with the GoFlex family of external drives and enables MacOS to mount NTFS volumes (partitions), read from them, and write to them. In short, it makes the GoFlex drive usable on a Windows PC and on a Mac without any reformatting or data erasure or instability.

September 24, 2012 at 11:46 pm in reply to: Format an External Hard Drive to use on MAC and PCChris… would that be individual files of 4gb? My projects contain clips totaling over 100gb, with some individual clips as large as 1.4gb.
YIKES! Maybe I should just get a MAC Laptop and eat MAC and Cheese for a while.
