Haven’t got AE in front of me right now, but wouldn’t working with the transform-effect make things easier.
If you would use a new (or duplicated) transform-effect for every spin, you would end up with just 1 diamondlayer and no precomps.

    Hi Dave,

the weird thing is: we always export same-as-source/RGB out of the Avid.
And i would think that the renders form different PC’s would be identical – all wrong or all right.

Where did you download the presets?
.mov-files are in most cases plain quicktime-movies instead of fx-presets. I’m just guessing but maybe you downloaded the rendered example instead of the preset?

I once saw a script enabling you to change your shortcuts. I believe it was at adobe exchange.
Maybe that would solve some issues for you.

Same problem here. We’ve even done multimachine renders on multiple identical pc’s, and one frame would come out lighter than another.
Haven’t found the solution, but i was suggested to check color profiles. That didn’t help in CS2 and i haven’t gotten around to testing it under CS3.

However, It only seems to happen when movies exported from of the avid are used in the comp.

    I’m with you Adam.
Since CS3 the behaviour of creating outlines has changed.
In previous versions, you would get a solid layer with masks, now you get a shape layer.

I also hope that somebody knows the answer/trick/setting, cause right now i have to autotrace my textlayers to get the desired effect (and autotracing does give a somewhat different result).

As far as i can tell, i can only set this “switch” when exporting my footage from avid to QT-same-as-source. Or when interpreting my footage in ae. But since the different computers use the same project to render, they should all use the same settings within ae, or not?

  • copy the sourcelayer, put a blur on it and set the transparency to 50%. That should take away a lot of the sharpness without defocussing too much.
