    Hi Kyle

Sometimes, low tech is the better solution. The ideal situation is not to have the noise (or way much less of it) from the get go. By the looks of it, you seem to be shooting quite often in areas with noisy backgrounds. This is what as worked for me for the past 35 years. ( way before all the fancy software ) I made myself a couple of 1 footers Y cables XLR M-F with pins 2 and 3 reversed at one end. (Adapters do exist but I don’t like having them in my kit just in case I end up using them by mistake on something else.)

The next step is to have at least two matching microphones. Not just the same make and model but matched as close as possible in frequency response. If you have access to a signal analyzer, you get bonus points. If not, take a hour of your time and test them out in the field. What happens is that the same signal is picked up by both microphones but the one farthest from your talent will be out of phase with the other, thus cancelling the un-wanted sounds. This works wonders when your talent is in a room with ventilation or near road traffic. Make sure both of them are pointing in the same direction. Don’t get to close to your talent with the second mic or you will cancel him out also. After a while, you get to know the sweet spots depending on the venue.

That being said, Wayne’s observation about Izotope Elements is spot on. At that price, you can’t go wrong. And remember, the less work you have to do in post, the better.

    Cheers !

    Hi Daniel

Your version of Vegas Pro, V13, can’t natively open H265 files. Support for H265 started with V14.

Quick and short history on the H265. This type of file was originally meant for broadcasting purposes and is also used in Blue-Ray. If at all possible, try to use another file type that will be recognized and won’t make your CPU huff and puff.

  • Hi Jordan

That did not answer your question at all. I had 2 other forums open at the time and someone had a similar question to yours. I replied to the wrong query.

    Sorry about that.

  • Hi Jordan

You may want to try this option and see it it works better for you.

Make sure that only the video track is selected. Right click on the video event. Select Insert/Remove Envelope . Click on Velocity. A line will appear. Double left click on line to create points as in picture below. Points can be set anywhere to create the desired effect.

With left mouse button, drag point to minus 100%. That will reverse your video at said point.

Not sure if it’s faster than your other method, but one never knows…

    Hi Trent

Not being familiar at all with the Movie Studio line, could it be that you have the option, as in the Vegas Pro version, of accessing the internal properties by holding the Shift key in Options/Preferences ? False setting makes it stop and go back to where you were. True will be more like a pause.

    Cheers !

July 10, 2020 at 4:29 pm in reply to: Stripes after rendering

    Hi Harald

Those lines are scan lines. What we are probably seeing is half a frame. Interlaced video is composed of two half frames to make one. It will first scan the odd lines (1,3,5,7, etc…) and then scan the even ones (2,4,6,8, etc…) in order to get a complete frame. You don’t get that with progressive as opposed to interlace. I can also see that the capture of your video has a lot of ”blockyness”. You can see it mostly in the black parts. It’s a dead giveaway for compression.

Not knowing what were the specs of the original file and what were the render parameters, that’s as much as I can tell you.

    Cheers !
