Another thing to consider is that the support for the oxide is plastic based. It will shrink over time and the oxide will fall off.

I just did a bunch of archive, some were on 1/2 inch, 3/4 inch and 1 inch tape (I know, stuff from the stone age…)

First problem was with a phenomena called ghosting, that’s when the image recorded on the tape is transferred to the part it’s sitting on top off thru magnetic transfer. On digital tape, it causes drop outs.
The other problem, as I mentioned before, is that since the support has a tendency to shrink over time, the oxide will fall off. Just as a measure of the work involved when transferring older tapes, I had one shot for each tape ’cause after one pass, the oxide would fall off and the original material was rendered useless. Not to mention that the tape reader had to be completely cleaned after each pass !!!

As it was mentioned previously, digitize you original source material sooner than later.

One other thing, you may not have to re-edit everything. Once your source material has been converted, move the original material to another drive or folder (I’m a big fan of extreme backups) and replace it with the proper converted files, using exactly the same name. When you open your .VEG file, it should all fall together.

I never personally tried it this way (with a converted file) but I do sometimes use this procedure to replace footage I am not happy with.

Someone may correct me on this.

In the future, not knowing the setting choices that you have for your camera, it would be easier for you if your source material was recorded at a 29.970 frame rate or 59.940 if your are shooting HD. It would save you the step of converting your footage.

Hi Susie

First off, uninstall K-lite. Make sure everything is gone from K-Lite, including in the registry. It creates way more problems than it solves.

Can you post https://mediaarea.net/en/MediaInfo of your original file(s) ?

If I am reading correctly, your original file that you dropped in Vegas has a 29.02 FPS. Vegas doesn’t like that very much.

It’s always trying to catch-up, hence the choppiness.

Try converting your file to a 29.970 FPS and that should do the trick. You can use Handbrake or any other decent converter.

VLC has a built in feature that does caching in order to deliver the output at a steady rate.

Never base the quality of your footage on the output from VLC.

Don’t get me wrong, VLC is a great player, just not a good reference.

Eric C. is on to something here.

I’ve analyzed your second clip and the jitters match the bass in the auditorium.

I would try to find a similar environment and do some test record using different settings. Stab. on, stab. off, etc… in order to find the optimum setting for your camera.

If possible, send me a link to your original footage. (Dropbox, etc…) A 20 sec. clip will do. I’ll see if I can help you save that footage.
