It may have something to do with the fact that your image file is 1366 X 768. (as per one of your screen capture)

A lot of vendors out there are trying to make you believe that 1366 X 768 is just as good as a 1920 X 1080 HD. The 1366 X 768 size is just short by a few pixels of a proper 16/9. And it’s not HD. That could be the source of your problem. Try recording a short piece of the same event with the proper HD parameters and see it that helps.

Also, you could use Track Motion to ”remove” those nasty looking lines after you’re done with your editing, would that be an acceptable quick fix for you ?

Auto white balance gives very inaccurate color temperature that tends to drift towards blue (by as much as 1500K) in outdoor scenes.
Apart from that, nice little camera.

There is a good reason why Vegas does this automatically. It is letting you know what size/format is your clip. Let say you dropped a couple of clips from different sources and they would all come out the same way in preview, but come rendering, it’s going to be a whole different ball game. This has been more prevalent since vertically shot clips from smartphone with funky frame rates are more common.

Ideally, all of your clips should be of the same frame size/format/type/etc. before starting your edit process. You will be less likely to run into problems when rendering time comes around.

You sent a 3 sec 12 frame clip. At what point exactly is it crackling ?

I’ve enlarged the audio waveform in Audacity and can’t see even a small ripple.

I suspect it may be related to your audio card or on-board audio processor.

Put your clips side by side. Leave a bit of space to be able to work. Ungroup the video tracks from the audio tracks. Extend your audio tracks out by, say, 15 frames. Regroup your video with the audio. Move one of the clips towards the other so that there is no gap (black) between the 2 video tracks. Notice that when you moved the tracks, the 2 audio tracks overlapped. adjust to your liking. Note that since they are now regrouped, if you move the audio of a clip to where it was before all of this process, it will again be tied to the video.

First thing I noticed was that you have a different frame rate for audio compared to your video frame rate. That is most likely why the video doesn’t match your audio.

I believe that the problem originates with the conversion that was made from the original file. Am I correct in suspecting that you used VLC to convert the file(s) ?

You may want to start over with the conversion, try using Handbrake this time or another conversion software.

Have you tried using Canon’s XF Utility ? If your file is there, it will see it and import it.
