Hmmm, have you tried MacCaption from cpcweb.com? They say they work with Media 100; I´ve never dealt with this issue (I think it does work differently with PAL anyway), but since they say it should work I guess it would?!?

is your project SD or HD?

Several options: you could rent a deck (DigiBeta, DVCPro50, HDCam or whatever you want to use). Or you could rent an XDCam deck (PDW-HD1500 or F1600) in case you want to have your master on XDCam HD, which is the format most TV stations in Germany take these days.
Or you can send a harddrive with your project and media files to a shop who can master it to tape for you; not sure if there is somebody near you with the necessary equipment.

For a digital copy, you can export your timeline to QuickTime and convert e.g. to H.264 which is pretty widely used these days, and most computers should be able to play this file. As a backup, you either could do a “Collect files from Program…” to collect all your media files e.g. to a FireWire drive, or you could export your timeline e.g. to ProRes as a backup.

For me the arrows disappear as soon as I turn on the “auto update monitor” in the “Preview” menu. I think this is related to not being able to use the OpenGL preview directly to the Kona card. Or maybe it is a bug…

Hmmm, not sure what you mean by Red GL Interacters. Could you try to describe your issue, or maybe post a screenshot?

October 13, 2010 at 5:25 pm in reply to: explanation of conform command

[todd mcmullen] “If I uncheck this box, does it do a software conform to HD?”

    Yes.

[todd mcmullen] “If I check I guess I would have to re-digitize the whole program?”
    Yes.

[todd mcmullen] “The program is near 2 hours and is very complex with overlays, cuts, titles and transitions.”

Sounds like fun. But seriously, why do you wan to deliver in HD? If your source is SD, you will not gain anything. If your source is HD, you should reacquire in HD to get better quality.
How do you want to deliver? On HD tape? XDCam HD disc? If you have to deliver on tape, you could use the hardware upscaler of the LHi to play out your SD timeline to a HD deck directly via HDSDI.

October 13, 2010 at 9:49 am in reply to: AVCHD conversion

[Murray Ferguson] “Using DVCProHD, the file is 107MB. Perhaps if I had access to a Prores codec, it would be smaller, I don’t know. (In case you’re wondering, I can’t use Prores till I upgrade FCP, and I can’t upgrade FCP till I upgrade my G5) Also the import process takes about 3 min, for an 8 sec clip.
I was wondering if someone could tell me why these files are so huge, and why it’s taking so long? Is it simply the nature of these codecs? “

It is taking so long because you are on a G5, and it naturally is much slower than the new Multicore MacPro systems. Most of the software is highly optimized for the Intel architecture. And of course an uncompressed file is much much bigger than the native AVCHD clips. With the ClipWrap and AVCHD codec you could edit natively from the small files; or even if you would transcode to ProRes you probably would end up with files comparable in size to the DVCProHD files, but with better quality.

[Danielle DeLucia] “Thanks Floh, that would be great. I need to reinstall my Media 100 Suite trial, which I will be sure to do Monday of next week. Please let me know what you would need on my end to do the session. I am available Tuesday through Friday at any time. For this issue, I will clear my schedule to try and resolve it! Thanks again for all your help.”

I would suggest we use Teamviewer, which is an easy way to do a remote session. You can contact me via mail in advance, and please try to summarize what your current issue is, what your system setup is (OS version, hardware,…)

The software encryption code is tied to the P6000 board serial number. What you intend to do is not going to work.

Are you speaking about a file import, or about acquiring from tape?

If the project is important to you, then you definitely should backup the files from your media drive, e.g. to a cheap USB drive. It is not very likely, but since the drive did not show up yesterday it could be damaged by the power outage and could go offline anytime. Again, not very likely, but if the stuff is important I think the investment of maybe $50 could save you a lot of time and headaches.
