There are several ways. The easiest (but probably least exciting) is to get a P2 player and digitize the material like from a regular tape deck. You have to recompress the material anyway to use it in M100HD so digitizing via SDI is the easiest way.
Probably there are other workarounds with other applications, but I haven

Do you have the newest version of Red? They just have released 3.04, I think.

  • [Michael C.] “What do you mean, “draft/full frame mode in Media 100 i”?”

Okay, I finally found the time to check it. When digitizing clips in Media 100 i (using the “HDR Online” quality and Media 100 HD at the same data rates they look identical on our systems (PAL). In Media 100 i you are able to use the “HDR Draft” settings for low data rates, which drops the second field but obviously has then more resolution for compression on the first field. These look better for still images, but we never used this setting since we could not get used to the full frame look of video in motion. That

  • DVDStudioPro is more or less the only choice for professional DVD authoring on the Mac. For encoding MPEG2 files there are various solutions. We have very good experiences with BitVice, they support the Media 100 colorspace (“StudioRGB”) and Media 100 i compression marks.

Try resetting Parameter Ram (hold CMD-ALT-P-R on startup until the second start chime). This should boot up the monitors in a default resolution.

You can use e.g. CMX 3400 EDL which can be exported from Avid and imported into Media 100 i.

Are you sure all your AE settings are correct? Frame rate, size, codec, color-depth, everything? Does the clip look okay in QuickTime player? What does QT player say about the clip in terms of Codec, frame-rate and size? Does Media 100 do a fast-import (“updating media file”) or a slow import? Are you importing from FireWire or from the Network? Does the clip that shows the problem have a QuickTime icon or a Media 100 icon?

[Andrew Wotring] “the footage i will be recieving is SD although it is 30P 16:9 anamorphic. i have been able to digitize media 29.97 fps 16*9 ANAMORPHIC in the past.”

There is no difference in Media 100 i or HD for the use of Progressive SD material. Just digitize it in NTSC 29.97 fps interlaced and your whole image will be digitized. Inside Media 100 (i or HD) all effects will happen interlaced, so if you need to stay progressive all the way (or if you want to create “correct” TimeFX) bring the material to AE, interpret it as progressive, do your effects and render out a progressive clip again.
