    Thomas,

I think it is a good idea to gather suggestions for the next releases of Media 100. I think these next releases will be based on the current version of Media 100 HD and sw, so I only can encourage everybody to download the sw beta and try it out. Give as much feedback as possible, positive and negative, to give Boris and the Media 100 team an idea what YOU really need in this product. For example I don

There is no reason why this should not work. The only thing you have to be aware of is the fact that Media 100 i/sw/HD works interlaced internally, so all effects you do in the system (time effects, transitions,…) will play out interlaced. But this should be no big problem.

    Steve,

thanks a lot for your responses here. I really like the idea of a deeper integration of the Boris products with the Media 100 HD/sw. I think this whole OpenGL route is probably the most cost-efficient way to get video-effects done these days, so here

October 4, 2005 at 7:58 pm in reply to: Why does Boris buy media100 ??

[Anders Haavie] “Strange things happening. Why did optibase buy media100 in the first place, when all they did was to mess up,.. and why does boris buy Media100.”

Shortly after Optibase bought Media 100 Optibase got a new CEO, who obviously did not see Media 100 and especially 844/X as an opportunity to widen the Optibase customer base and revenue. So he decided to stop development of 844/X. Boris on the other hand knows the video postproduction market and obviously he sees a chance to strengthen his company here. Plus, he knows Media 100 pretty well since he was one of the initial developers of Media 100 on the Mac.

October 3, 2005 at 6:31 pm in reply to: Hardware configuration for 8.x

[Paul Holzman] “I have v8.0 (which, if I’m remembering correctly, is the first version that worked with X) but I have heard that the 8.0 version had some redigitizing bugs that were worked out in subsequent versions.”

If you have V8 you can upgrade to V8.1.1 for free. Only the V8.2.x upgrade is not free.

[Paul Holzman] ” But my impression is that 7.5 doesn’t work with system X. And I believe my dual 500 is too slow for v8, no?”

V7.5 does not work with OSX, since the software from Classic cannot access hardware under OSX. V8.1 will run on a dual500, but OSX alone and Media 100 under OSX like fast CPUs. I would recommend at least a Dual1GHz G4 for V8.x and OSX in general.

[Mike L] “Any suggestions and other experiences would be appreciated.”

Maybe downgrade to QuickTime 6.5 again? I think I have heard that the Transcoder does not work reliably with QT7/PC.

  • [Michael C.] “In the past (on the M100i system) we would capture at 5 or 10kb HDR and the quality of the image was just fine. Obviously a bit pixelated, but nothing that a client would be distracted by understanding that it was an “offline”.”
