The kext should be in System->Library->Extensions. But this sounds like you have some sort of hardware problem. Have you tried to run the Media 100 hardware test? Are your connections to the expansion chassis okay? Power on on the expansion chassis?

[Ted Joyce] “What is the best method within Media 100i for exporting a long range (over 1 hour)for DVD authoring and still maintain the chapter points and chapter names? “
Export from Media 100 i as a by-ref file with chapter marks and encode with BitVice. Then your Chapter Marks with names will show up in DVDSP.

[Ted Joyce] “Is the software codec worth installing and using if one only uses M100 & Commotion (for occational retouching)?”
    Yes.

[Ted Joyce] “Is Mac OS 10.4.1 stable for using M100 with? “
Yes for Media 100 HD, and probably also for Media 100 i, but not certified for Media 100 i.

[zamor1] “When I preview the I DVD project before, the movie played in small frame. Now
when i preview – it comes full frame.”

This is related to the software codec and should not cause any errors.

[zamor1] “The I DVD is accepting the clip, but in the stage of rendering the movie,it anounces
    of error.”

What error message do you get, and what version of OSX, QuickTime and iDVD do you use? I

September 22, 2005 at 2:29 pm in reply to: Using the M100 software only version

[Paul Holzman] “What is the minimum computer (speed, RAM) can I use for this?”

1GB Ram and a G4 processor. The faster the better, and Dual-G5 preferred (but obviously not available in a PowerBook).

[Paul Holzman] “Normally I would use Animation but I don’t know how the sw only version handles various codecs. “

Media 100 sw and HD can mix and play back various codecs in realtime, including DV, Animation, Media 100 i and others. Probably Animation will be the best choice for you in terms of speed. The Media 100 i codec would result in smaller files but needs more CPU power when being decompressed for playback, which can cause problems on a PowerBook. Animation or the “lossless” setting from AE which is based on the Animation codec should be fine.

[Paul Holzman] “In terms of exporting, can I just make a self contained M100 QT file and then use QT or another program (Compressor, Bitvice) to make the MPEG2 file?”

Yes, you can export by-ref, self containing or QuickTime files from sw as you can from Media 100 i, and you can use them in BitVice (Compressor does not use the correct Colorspace for Media 100 i files, giving you results with not enough contrast).

Media 100 i works niecly with the XServe RAID system. We use various ATTO cards (Celerity and 3300), but the cheapest solution is probably the Apple FC card. I haven

[paul] “my gut feeling, Boris will not buy 844/X as that is gone and will buy only the HD mac hardware and leave it as an “as is product”. not even the old p6000.”

I doubt there will be a big difference in buying HD only and buying the whole Media 100 range, since I have the feeling Optibase will be happy to find a new home for them.
