Um, even rturning on the computer can destroy your hard drives, but it is highly unlikely. If you defrag your media drives with a tool that is developed for the OS you are using there is no reason why defragmenting a drive should do any harm.

yes, your cards seem to be in the right order. If you have some time to troubleshoot I would suggest removing both the additional graphics card as well as the SCSI card, reset PRAM on startup (press CMD-ALT-P-R until you hear a second startup chime) and run the Media 100 test application after this. If the test passes then open Media 100 and try to digitize on your internal or FireWire drive. If this works I would put back in the additional Graphics card to see if the system still works then.

I hope you mean 1GB of Ram. G4 Dual500 and 1GB Ram is really a low end configuration for running Media 100 on OSX (or running any professional application on OSX).
The main question is where your crashes come from. To me it most likely sounds like a hardware problem; probably related to the Media drives you are digitizing to. What kind of drives and controller do you use? Have you tried the newest firmware and drivers for everything? Have you defragmented your media drive? Have you tried digitizing to your boot drive in a low data rate to see if the problem happens also? Are your Media 100 boards (and storage connection boards) located as suggested in the CPG for your system configuration?

“The yellow bars indicate Realtime Effects on a clip; the system does not “calculate” the amounts of realtime effects and layers you used vs the CPU speed; so while it is yellow and marked as a realime effect it is not sure it will actually play in realtime.

XDCam files right now can be captured as if they are coming from tape using an XDCam player. And somebody (I think after speaking with Boris) posted here earlier that OMF support is planned for HD; maybe you should do a search for it

The point is that it is very likely that there is no hardware difference between the Media 100 “OEM” boards and the Aja Kona boards, especially since Media 100 did a press release when announcing the new product line that mentioned the Kona products several times. As far as I understand this was pulled because the Kona brand is somewhat related to Apple. What I think will be possible is to have a dual-boot configuration, where you either can boot using the Aja Kona drivers or using the Media 100 drivers if you buy your board from Media 100. But as long as Media 100 has not shipped the first new systems and nobody really tried it there probably is no way to 100% confirm this. So while it is very likely to run FCP on a Media 100 OEM system it is not possible to run Media 100 on a Kona board, since the V11 encryption code will be related to a board serial as it also is with the P6000 boards and V8.

One additional thing you should consider: While the price difference is not really big between Media 100 and FCP on comparable hardware, chances are pretty high that if you buy the hardware from Media 100 you can run both applications (Media 100 and FCP from different boot drives) on it. If you buy a Kona from a reseller will only be able to rung FCP on it.

You need to use the iFinish Transcoder. It allows you to read Media 100 i digitized files on a PC. You still cannot write them, and you need to stay below QuickTime 7.
