[aurien] “How can you re-point a trimmed, placed, adjusted, equalized clip from the program timeline to the media it is supposed to use? Am I left deleting the clips from the time line and starting over?”

While you cannot really relink to different media files there is a workaround you can use (assuming you re-imported the original audio files).

It sounds like a hardware error. First thing I would try is to run the Media 100 hardware test to see if something strange happens with your board.
Next, create a new Project and see if this works fine. Digitize one (or some) clip, place it on a timeline, play it back, master it to tape. If this is okay, most likely your hardware is all right.
Then you could try to open your timeline in this new project. Cancel the “Relink Media” search and see if the timeline opens up correctly without the media files. If yes, then the next thing would be a “Relink media” to see if you e.g. have a damaged media file somewhere.

Let us know how it works out.

Do you save to a fileserver? I think there were some problems with Server connections that were active for some time. Try saving your files to a local drive.
Btw., as a quick workaround you can import your rendered file into your project and place it on a new “edited” timeline. Keep a backup of your master timeline with the unrendered effect, though.

We also saw some crashes on our 8Core system today, which could be related to what you are seeing (btw. I guess you are not running an 8-core G5 😉 ). One thing you could try is to download and install the CHUD tools from Apples Developer website and turn off 4 of your CPUs with the control panel that gets installed with the CHUD tools, to see if this fixes your problem. If yes it is a workaround until this bug is fixed.
Plus, if the Media 100 BugReporter starts it definitely helps sending these bugreports to Media 100.

Depending on your Mac, the cheapest solution is to get a SATA card and some external or internal SATA drives. Great performance for little money.

You definitely should have no Kona drivers or applications(!!!) on your Media 100 partition. The Media 100 installer does install the Aja OEM drivers, which should work fine with your board. Does the Apple system profiler “see” your LSe board when booting from your Media 100 partition?

May 18, 2007 at 9:46 pm in reply to: Does Media 100 make AE run in YUV instead of RGB?

From what I understand, Media 100s hardware works in YUV, and the incoming files get stored as YUV files (e.g. in the Media 100 i codec). If these YUV files are accessed via QuickTime, like in AE or QuickTime player, they are converted into RGBA. All processing in AE happens in RGB colorspace before the files get written back into the Media 100 i (YUV) codec.

Some older hardware (including the first AVID systems with the pre-Meridien boards) worked in RGB, which made a conversion from the incoming YUV signals to RGB and back to YUV for output necessary. Most of todays hardware is YUV, though.

  • [Thomas Hughes] “Is it possible to edit these together in the same timeline? In the preferences I put the setting at 16:9, then logged all the footage from the 16:9 camera.”

    Not really…

[Thomas Hughes] “n other words, even though all the footage is digitizing in the 16:9 mode, it ends up looking like it was all digitized in the 4:3 mode.”

This is correct. In your viewer window the clips will look as 16:9, and if you switch your monitor to 16:9 you will also see them in the correct aspect ratio.

My suggested workflow would be to find out in which format you will be delivering. So if you are going to deliver in 16:9 anamorphotic, digitize all your clips in 16:9 (or reimport the ones that you already digitized using the “Import” window, and set the aspect ratio in the Import window to 16:9). Edit the stuff together as you like; unfortunately you will be seeing some footage stretched and some correct.
When finished export your timeline to AE; in AE scale your 4:3 clips to match the 16:9 composition and render out the whole project.
If you are going to deliver in 4:3 do it reversed.

May 18, 2007 at 6:14 pm in reply to: how do I get rid of the arrows?

Grab and hold one of the arrows (not the one that is at the right edge) and drag it up. Release Mouse, arrow will be gone.

[DoctorSney] “, I like having a source monitor in the NLE that has a drop down menu of recently loaded clips.”

You do have this in V11.5…
