The latest Media 100 i version is V8.2.3a, and this is free for v8.2 customers. Give it a try.

Media 100 i and V8.2 is quite an old platform. It is great to see that there are updates at all like the V8.2.3 release recently; other hardware/software vendors would not do this.

You need a DRIVER for your port. The DQTimeCoder is a plugin that does deck control, but it needs to “see” a serial port. Therefore you need the driver for your device.

The QuickTime update could be it. But first you could delete (or move to the desktop) the Media 100 prefs (they are in YourHomeFolder->Library->Media 100 Preferences).

Does that mean you have a 16:9 timeline with 4:3 footage incorrectly scaled to 16:9 in it? All material in a timeline is in the same aspect ratio (at least Media 100 does think that), so some of your footage most likely is wrongly flagged either as 4:3 or as 16:9.
Now, if you have 4:3 clips in a 16:9 timeline here is what you can do:
Copy your 4:3 clip from your 16:9 timeline, paste it into a 4:3 timeline. The system will ask hwo to handle the 16:9->4:3 conversion, where you choose “Change aspect ratio”. Now your clip has the correct 4:3 aspect ratio.
Copy the clip back from your 4:3 timeline into your 16:9 timeline, and when the conversion dialog pops up, this time use the “Conform Media” command with the settings you want to use. There needs to be some conversion from 4:3->16:9, and maybe you have to try some different settings to see which one is good for you. -
The “workaround” is not to use Compressor, but instead use BitVice, since it can handle Media 100s and Avids “StudioRGB” Colorspace.
Another option would be to do a QuickTime export from Media 100 (not by ref or self contained, but using the “QuikckTime” setting) into any available codec and setting it to “Computer” range on export. This will map your blacks to 0 and your whites to 255.
Third way would be to acquire into a non-Media 100 codec, e.g. Uncompressed 8Bit 422 or DVCPro50. Material acquired into one of these codecs uses the “Full” RGB range. -
The HDx hardware has SD/HD Component output, but only SD component input (as you can see on the component cables). The HD Component input option is only available on Media 100 HDe/Kona LHe systems.

Are you using Media 100 i or HD? In Media 100 HD there is a relatively easy workaround for this: What we have done is we rendered a 1 hour TC overlay clip from AE (using the AE Text->TimeCode filter) into a heavily compressed codec with Alpha (I think we used Animation at a very low data rate). Now if we need a TC overlay we just put the TC window clip on the highest empty V track and play it out. Usually no rendering is required, and espeically if it is only for an early approval version this usually is fine with our clients.
But of course it would be nice to have a TC overlay window as part of the functionality of Media 100. -
Did you try playing back the tape on another deck? Ideally you should try playing it back on the system that recorded the tape, since if the head is slightly misaligned chances are better that the recording deck will play back the tape okay.
