V11.6.2 does run on the 8core systems (although as far as I know is not fully tested; but I am running it for some weeks without troubles). So I would guess V12 will work on 8Core systems also.

If the content of the DVD is not protected (e.g. Macrovision) you can use MPEG Streamclip. Convert to e.g. DV files which can be read natively by Media 100. The conversion usually is much quicker than realtime (depending on your CPU speed), so you can ingest your DVD content quickly.

Good conversion is not cheap (the one or other way). The Alchemy is a really good hardware transcoder. If you want to do it in software you should take a look at Compressor 2.1 or later (in case you already have it). But while you may have the software which gives excellent results you will have to take some serious render times for the conversion.

In this case I doubt that I can help you much. Currently there is no free version of the Software Codec (the old Transcoder was replaced with full Software Codecs some years ago). Producer is like FCP a software-only solution, which can work with old Media 100 movies and projects/programs/bins. If you are missing many things about the “elegant and user friendly software”, you should give it a try to work on your old files. There is a free 14-day trial version, and the full version comes with the Codecs…

When calculating it (29.97 vs 30 frames) you end up exactly with a frame difference of 93.6 frames at the end of a 52 min program (52*60*29.97 vs 52*60*30).

Yes, but not in V8. This is an option of V11 and higher only.
