The key word here is that the memory is virtual. It’s related to and depends upon hdd’s capacity and not vice versa.

No offense, but isn’t it kinda stuff that clearly separates editor-narrator from tech support guy? By the same token you can ask people here how to make a good story in general. It’s not about transitions it’s about story. You better go rent some good documentaries that were filmed over a period of time to watch how editors dealt with passing of time on the screen. You’ll find something that will eventually inspire you to discover your own approach.

You’ll wind up w/ broken FCP7 and Motion 4 after installing fcpx updates. There is plenty of info on this. Don’t take my word for it – check for yourself.

You can’t capture w/ 720p preset from DV tape. BTW, if you want best quality use FW for DV capture instead of SDI.

Yes, Compressor 4 loads all cores 100%. I didn’t bother with precision testing but I have a feeling in my guts that it’s still being outpaced by Adobe Media Encoder. You can’t use it w/ FCP7.

Compressor 4? Really? It’s not supposed to work w/ FCP7. Use Compressor 3.5.

Change destination, for instance, to desktop. Then save project to whatever folder you need to. It’s something to do with privileges/permissions.

Right now I’d definitely take a look at some mid-2010 mac pro model instead of buying new one. In light of all events surrounding pro application division of Apple I see no incentive to fork out for something I’d probably end up being unable to load 100%. I need to work really hard to utilize all cores and memory. Why additional beaf?
