I’m not gonna use it in full-circle production for there is no way to communicate with other participants: VFX, Sound, Grading. Furthermore, fcpx broke traditional editorial workflow and legit question is Why industry should follow software lead while it should be the other way around. Maybe this is a good idea for home studio to collate five to ten videos per year into ‘events’. For a production company this approach looks silly to say the least. I’m looking for developments in this story though I’m leaning towards avid/davinci solution.

  • In Compressor you can set field dominance you need: Go to Inspector then to second tab Encoder then Video Format.

Yep, it work flawlessly. There are some minor issues, though they are not relating to FCP and caused by some new features of Lion, such as “saved application state”. For the time being I’ve nothing to say in regard to 3d party plugings. I didn’t install or test them.

I beg your pardon, didn’t you notice the second part of his inquiry? I don’t argue on merits of adapter vs. canopus vs. aja. I stated my position on merits of canopus vs. aja/blackmagic issue. I don’t understand why we spend so much time squabbling over it here?

    Rafael,
    thanks to pointing to it.
Nathan asked about alternative to aja/blackmagic solution. Canopus three-to-five times cheaper then any external aja/blackmagic device. Furthermore, what point to have hd video signal out as you have SD preview monitor?
I believe if you can get through dvi-mini-port to SD monitor without paying a dime, it’s worth it. If not, i’d rather pay for Canopus.

Recently I was introduced to “poor man” process. The device is called Canopus ADVC110. It outputs perfect SD picture from HD time line. No need to doll out for ajas. For the purpose of preview it’s more than enough.

June 12, 2011 at 12:13 pm in reply to: Cant get Canopus advc110 working at all???

Here’s my solution: Make sure you connect to In ports not Out. I wasted my time because I didn’t notice the fact that I connected to wrong ports. Now I’m capturing VHS tapes as old as I am (slight artistic exaggeration) without problems. Gosh, I need assistant.
If you can have a signal out of your VHS on TV then you can easily capture it with Canopus ADVD 110.

In couple days I’m gonna try to exercise the same kind of stunt: I’ve have a bunch of old vhs tapes and conopus advc 110. I’ve already tried to capture in vain. I seem to have a problem with vhs recorder (gonna have different one). I promise to report later on success/failure. Would you please tell me if you succeeded. I’m very interested in it since I’m heading for truckload of this stuff to digitize in weeks to come.

June 8, 2011 at 11:24 am in reply to: 5D2 Plugin Render Problem

Normally FCP never asks you to render Canon 5D material ingested through L&T with Canon EOS-E1 plugin installed. Just drag and drop clip from browser on time line and accept fcp’s offer to match clips properties. Works every time without a problem.
