If you’re gonna work with beta cam you’re very lucky since they were phased out by digital beta cams decades ago so you won’t have a plenty of choice of them on the market. You need the one capable of recording VTC. Without this function you won’t pass QT.

First rebuttal: No in Europe PAL is TV standard and all players are more likely to handle it more naturally than NTSC. Though I guess it’s almost irrelevant now since last generation of DVD players can play NTSC/PAL without a problem.
Secondly, why you can’t shoot either NTSC or PAL with both cameras. Stick to something homogenous.
Third, I don’t understand your obsession with 24 fps. Do you think it’ll add up to production value of your footage?

Me thinks your copy of FCP became self-aware and is poised to launch first wave of suicide attacks against humanity. You’d better run for it.
Joke aside, FCP uses disk space for render files. You hinted that it miraculously happened over night. May be you have auto-render function enabled and having hour or two of HD in open time-line with some filters that need render could add up to it.

I took a peep at ebay and found a number of offers. I suppose as long as you have proof of purchase (box, print materials, original installation disks) it’s pretty legitimate deal and if something happens to your serial number, lost or somehow blacklisted, you can always expect Apple to respect your copy and issue a new serial for you.

When you put video other than MPEG-2 in DVD Studio Pro you let it do encoding. My personal attitude is do encoding yourself and let DVD Studio Pro only multiplex.
You said obvious change happened when you started working with material that came from new camera. Your tape camera gave you HDV, new camera gives you HD, thought I’m in total dark as to what codec it uses. You did not say nothing about it.
What is my advice to you: Send a limited portion of your edited time-line to compressor, use preset for creating DVD (best quality 90 mins, for instance), import two files (ac3 and m2v) into DVD Studio and format a DVD on your HDD. Test it. See what works, what not.
My believe is DVD Studio could handle HDV codec pretty good since it was essentially the same old MPEG but it couldn’t pull off the trick with new codec whatever they use in your new camera.

Technically yes but difference is negligible – no one will ever notice until you have a problem with cleaning heads.

I’ve two systems on separate hdds. Didn’t try to squeeze them onto one. Clean install only.

Works fine up to fcp 7.0.3. The other apps work fine as well.

Well that’s one long story. In nutshell workflow goes like this: Edit footage in FCP in native or ProRes codec, lock edit, put compression, if necessary, and chapter markers, send to compressor, use ready-to-go preset for DVD or create your own. Open DVD Studio, create project and assets, import video and audio, create track and menu, add buttons, simulate, build, test and, if everything works fine, burn disk.

I know nothing about your horse power but encoding always takes it’s tall. Don’t forget you have a mixture of formats on time-line that should be converted into unified frame-rate resolution-based video. If you have adobe media encoder around it’ll do that job ten times faster.
