    Overall, very happy with Resolve!

    But here’s my two cents:
I find the change folder location function when pointing to new media to be needlessly limited and sometimes impossible. What does it matter where the media used to be? And why can’t we delete the old path in case we made a mistake and pointed to the wrong location? It just adds on infinitely and then you’re really screwed. Very tricky especially when dealing with camera file formats that have folders/subfolders. As it is, I sometimes have to reconform the project and then do a colortrace.

In terms of feature requests, I’ll make it short.
    Audio OMF/AAF export
Turn split clips into independent clips, so that flagging and marking works properly for those workflows
Left arrow and right arrow don’t switch clip if going beyond bounds of looped clip in the color page.
Offset ball mappable for 3rd party panels (i know this issue is talked about to death)
A reverse s-curve contrast function to “re-log” linear images.
A user definable gamma frequency/pivot, similar to how parametric equalization works in audio mixing.
Contest frequency control for specifically affecting areas of high, medium, or low contrast. Very handy for adjusting or removing detail in a controlled fashion in beauty work, etc.

Basically I’d like to rely on curves less for picking part the tonal range of an image.

Again, very happy with the program!

  • I understand all the ins and outs and pitfalls of gamma, codecs, etc.. But I’m fairly certain that what I’m seeing is an outright bug. Because I’m using the same exact render settings, but getting different results depending on whether I’m doing a full render or individual clip render. It’s a slight difference, but on this particular job critical details really matter.

This is a nMP, D500 machine. Resolve 11.1.3 on OSX 10.9.5.

  • i’ve heard folks make references to “surprises” when converting a rec709-graded master to a DCP shown in a cinema environment. but it’s not always clear to me if this was because of a technical error in the conversion or a matter of actual colorspace/gamma/brightness issues.

anecdotally, what differences can one generally expect to see going from a 35fL rec709 2.2/2.4-gamma environment to a 14fL DCP projected environment? assuming that there is no technical issue in the conversion, of course.

given that you need a linux box and the right i/o and display hardware to even properly see P3 colorspace, i’m not sure what the “second-best practice” is for those of us working with decklinks on macs and PCs.

  • I’ve had this issue while working on facilities that have yet to invest in proper video equipment. Going through it now as a matter of fact.

Decided to give up troubleshooting and accept that, when it comes down to it, there is no acceptable solution beyond a blackmagic interface, an sdi signal, and a calibrated monitor in the right viewing environment. Everything else is an embarrassing headache.

The definition of “web” color is elusive. Too many points where software code interacts with that you’re seeing, and what everyone else will be seeing.

  • Firmware update solved it.

    Nice.

agree with margus and think it’s going to be several months before we know if they are good for resolve and good value overall. my guess is that, if you want long term performance, you’ll have to drop the $10K for the full spec machine and hope it can handle 4K, 6K, 8K, etc. well into the future.

i’ve been running a windows box cheaply and happily for 2 years now, and only miss prores encoding. if apple is going to fart on us with FCPX, they could at least open up their codec.

Using Eucon 3.0.1 and it feels responsive enough. No connection issues.

Mapping has been reworked and is mostly the same, save for a few things. Bank 1 and Bank 2 behave differently.

  • go wes. thanks, man. saved me!

i have lag as well. occasional network battling. nothing too bad but it seems like it could be better. it definitely was more responsive in apple color. running win7 on a qualified machine.

Just using the lite version for now. Another gtx 580 would be a good add, I’m guessing. Good to know!

    Thanks, Rohit.
