What you’re doing is telling it how to replace the colour you picked as the screen colour within the area known as the “spill area”.
There is a boarder around the image +- a few pixels where it will operate. It’s going to replace the green or blue with whatever you have chosen as your desired colour. The blending mode is going to be either hard colour or soft colour depending on this setting.
The technical math behind it beats the pants off me but the short end of it is that you’re cycling two different blending modes to mix the colours to get a harder or softer result.
“Source” is basically saying to do nothing and leave it alone.

You got any fancy pants 3rd party codecs or plugins going on there hombre? You may have a corrupted file on your hands that’s interacting poorly with expected boot ups.
Also can you open other save files that are not that one? Can you open AAe first, then load the project?

Is the matching images a trouble because the objects in the pictures are moving about?
The process is about the same working backwards you match one inside the other parenting as you go then expanding back out using scale property.
Your best bet to “fake” it a bit better is to induce some blur, maybe a nice radial zoom blur could make it a bit easier around the edges?

I use BouJou but I assume it’s the same method.
1. solve the shot to make the camera yadda yadda
2. rough mask around the things moving one thing at a time
3. instead of track points use “track object?” is that even a thing in camera tracker? Should be an option in there when laying down points.Evan Abrams

What would you like to know? I’m a freelance VFX and Motion Graphics maker. I’m not famous but if you would like a quote I can give it to you. If you have any specific questions ask away.

January 24, 2012 at 10:52 pm in reply to: Maya Composite vs After Effects for compositing, which is the best for film?If you’re going into Premiere I would recommend AAE if only because of the integration you will enjoy with not having to render out before you rough edit. You will have a much more flexible workflow with the AAE to Premiere connection.
Also it rocks with 4k and if you’re already familiar with it why change? Sure Maya is great but dance with the one that brought you. Your final piece will arguably be made better for your experience with AAe rather than being your first rodeo with these other apps. If it’s just for fun times whatever, but if it was me I would stick with what I know I can knock it out of the park with and I won’t have to be fumbling around with getting to know a new system. But maybe that’s just me 🙂
Cheers and best of luck

Puppet pin is still in it’s infancy. You can “paint” the area a pin controls though. Perhaps the solution is somewhere in that.

Sadly a “space” is seen as the absence of any characters and is therefore always going to be treated as “not a character” Your best bet is to go with the underscore and put a warning in the documentations for folks. OR alternatively build a kernning solution into the script to remove space’s and increase the spacing of the next letter after them?

January 24, 2012 at 1:02 pm in reply to: Pen signature, pen wont follow the path and system crashesSounds to me like you’re using closed paths to define the movement. That would cause an error I think. Needs to be an open path if I’m not mistaken.
Also consider just manually moving the pen around using key frame and tweak the motion paths if your AAe keeps crashing. You may have a corrupted instal.

Your best bet is to get real textures to work with and use blending modes and opacity changes on top of that texture later. Then animate using a luma mate and either fractal noise or turbulent noise on a control layer to bring in the images over the texture. I did a tutorial about such a thing once.
Now if you combine that princible with some feathered masking you’ll be spot on.
Once you have the content of the pages bring those in to a 3d app and use them as part of a texture. Using movies as textures can be a real kick in the RAM though.
Hope that helps. Cheers.
