  • Maya Composite vs After Effects for compositing, which is the best for film?

In my work on an upcoming feature film I’ll work primarily around green screens and blue screens action shots, so I need to determine which one I should focus on… I know After Effects and I don’t know Maya Composite at all, but now I have the chance to get free training on it – which one is more powerful for work with a 4K resolution file and RED files for compositing? the VFX’s were made in Combustion, Maya and Max and I’ll need to integrate them into the footage, color currect and render for Premiere.

I will also get to work with Flame later, which I understand is the most powerful of them all for PC.

    Thanks

If you’re going into Premiere I would recommend AAE if only because of the integration you will enjoy with not having to render out before you rough edit. You will have a much more flexible workflow with the AAE to Premiere connection.

Also it rocks with 4k and if you’re already familiar with it why change? Sure Maya is great but dance with the one that brought you. Your final piece will arguably be made better for your experience with AAe rather than being your first rodeo with these other apps. If it’s just for fun times whatever, but if it was me I would stick with what I know I can knock it out of the park with and I won’t have to be fumbling around with getting to know a new system. But maybe that’s just me 🙂

    Cheers and best of luck
