  • It should not be any easier at all. The thing is that HDV has 4 times the resolution as miniDV but the exact same data rate of 25 Mbits/sec, so if anything it is even more compressed. The colour sampling rate is still the same, 4:1:1 or 4:2:0 depending on where you are. The only difference is that your file sizes will be bigger, so if anything it might be even harder to work with than miniDV footage.

    My 2 cents….

If you plan to use your 3d models for motion graphics then definetaly go for Cinema 4D as it is integrated with After Effects. You can easily export your camera data etc straight into your AE project. Maya is a more powerful software but only if you want to do really full on visual effects (which would take you years to learn properly anyway), and is generally a much steeper learning curve.

    Go the Cinema 4D.

Depends on what software and footage you want to use.

Macs are great but they don’t quiet give you the value for bucks that you would get with a pc etc. From recent experience, if you plan to use a lot of HD, especially dvcpro footage, then go the mac as there are various annoying issues with codecs etc for pcs. In general, all these new formats seem to lean more towards macs…By the way I am on pc, so if you don’t think that this will be too much of an issue, then go the pc or Alienware…

Thanks for your responses guys. Just as I thought… Hey Jason, the Sheer codec, is that one you have to purchase or is it already an option in Quicktime 7 Pro, AE or FCP? Regardless, animation should be fine as it is lossless right? By the way this is dvcpro50 footage, nothing to do with the p2 HD stuff.

Ah, I’m glad to here it Steve.

That footage will be going back on my main PC hardrive where I will have to first cut it up into all the shots, then key it, then composite, so looks like I should be fine.

    Cheers mate

    Hey Jeremy

I am getting a post place to capture footage of a dvcpro50 deck via their editing suite to my external drive. Do you think that I will have difficulty opening the uncompressed quicktimes in AE or Premier?

Sorry to slightly sidetrack this thread…

    Cheers

Just have each letter on a seperate layer. Then turn all layers into 3D layers (check the 3D box next to each one). Create a camera, then initially place all the letters behind the camera in the z axis so they are not visible. Keyframe them to taste so they fly past the camera one by one just like in the example you provided, use ease in and out on your keyframes. Make sure that motion blur is checked for all your layers. Easy…

    Good luck

Wait, are you saying that DVCPRO50 footage captured as an uncompressed quicktime won’t work on my pc? That is reaaly not something I want to hear right now…Can anyone confirm this?
