I am having a similar problem. I read the manual but I still get many artifacts. Did anyone post any advanced videos online somewhere?

I’m finding that the best way to use Compressor to create NTSC files from 23.98 HD clips is to downrez the shot first keeping the frame-rate the same and keeping the Frame Controls off. Then take that clip and add the pull-down as a second step. Now to see if I can make Automator do this all for me somehow.

Yeah, I want to look into Episode. Compressor does not seem to handle text too well when downconverting footage.

Well it looks like I’m re-doing the job. It’s not going to take too long at least. Thanks everyone for the advice and tips.

I could have recompressed the file but I’m just trying to be honest. If I have to redo the job so be it but I want the client to understand the technology and why I choose to use the codec.

In the past I always worked in 10-bit Uncompressed and then layed the trailers off to HDCAM for film out which is less quality than ProRes.

    Thanks.

The client hasn’t said there was anything wrong with the way the footage looks. He just stated “my experience with ProRes is still new and I am extremely averse to working in that format unless I have seen concrete evidence and know with certainty that there is absolutely no qualitative difference between uncompressed HD and the ProRes codec.” So I’m doing some research to show him that there is little difference in the two codecs.

The client isn’t complaining about anything they are seeing. They are just used to working on an “Uncompressed” environment.

The film was mastered in another post-house. The conversion is quite good and does look like it was done with the Teranex. Knowing that US Networks and Discovery accept it is good fodder for a discussion. Thanks!

Usually the material comes from film. In this case it comes from DV. He edits trailers for multiple clients. But I have done this before with film elements and finished in ProRes multiple times that have been filmed out and I have had not one problem in the past two years. I’m just looking for some information online to help make him feel better. I’m going to explain everything tomorrow.
