    Hi there,

I have created a plugin pack called “ImaegFlow Fx” which creates animated photo montages directly on the timeline in Final Cut Pro or Motion.

you only choose a folder of images, choose the tempo and animation stlyle and they play back in realtime on the GPU with no rendering.

there is a demo reel here:

and a free 14 day trial here:

I would suggest that if you are doing the sort of compositing where you are getting open exr renders (presumably in float) that you might want to be using Shake instead of Motion.

shake can read all channels in an OpenEXR.

I don’t believe that capability exists in motion (I’d like to hear it if I’m wrong)

    what plugins do you need?

have you looked to see if FxFactory has equivalent plugins? It will run for 14 days for free with no watermark and if you decide to buy it the serial is sent completely automated to you instantly.

i wouldn’t assume they will render.

safest option is to render the movie out as animation codec (uncompressed + alpha) with motion blur etc and then bring that into final cut pro.

IMO, the support for rendering motion projects on the final cut pro timeline still has a long way to go

have you got motion blur turned on?

generally for flickering problems on tv’s the best solution is a combination of motion blur and antialiasing. If there is no movement at all, then try a very slight 1-2 pixel blur half mixed back over the original. The slight softening will spread colour values across both fields and helps to get rid of interlacing flicker.

what sort of templates are you looking for? What don’t you like about Peter’s (very generous) free templates?

Have you looked at the SugarFx website, some of those are free and the rest are very cheap for what you get.

good quality templates take a long time to create, and giving them away free is not a good business model (unless it’s a promo)

the glows in the NI Motion pack eg “optical glow” have the option to expand the size of the layer which you apply them to. you can use these free for 14 days.

  • Hi,

it sounds to me like all of this could be done using patch based live video manipulation software without actual programming.

take a look at isadora, https://www.troikatronix.com

this software is designed for live theatre and event based video production, and interactive art installations but it could easily be adapted for the task you want to do. Isadora also supports creating custom control panels without any programming.

if your researcher is fairly tech savvy I think they could create the system themselves, if not you could definately find someone willing to create it for you on the isadora forums.

Regarding timing ImageFlow to music, it’s been designed that way. All the plugins in ImageFlow can use image timing as either “secs per image” or “BPM”. You can set the bpm of your music track and then set the images to be changing every four beats or every beat etc.

I will also be adding some new options to take advantage of the audio analysis feature in motion 3 in a future version.

fotomagico is a great product undoubtably. The ImageFlow plugins have the advantage of being usable on the timeline in Final Cut Pro or Motion. No need to go to an external application.

I also believe that ImageFlow has several animation styles which are not possible in fotomagico, its designed to be usable to generate quite complicated motion graphics animations from stills, not just slideshows.

You can try out imageflow for free anyway, so you having nothing to lost my giving it a shot. Please do send feedback.
