I just remembered that Sigma makes a 50-500 canon holster lens. It is a bit slower but has way more range. I have used it, and for video it still looks pretty good

It would be best to have a few lenses but if you were to get just one lens I would recommend the Canon 70-200 IS f2.8 If you are really far back you can try getting a 100-400mm as well but i find the 70-200 is the perfect zoom lens

I notice that my 7D overheats all the time but my 5D can be started and stopped every 12 minutes in order to shoot a 3 hour interview and it has not overheated.

Hey thanks for your reply. I do undertand the difference between the IS lens and non IS lens, but what I don’t understand is the difference between the IS1 and the IS2 lenses. Obviously the IS2 is newer but is there much picture quality or bokeh difference?

I am not sure why you would want to take the glass off. I don’t see any benefits. There is more of a risk that something like a scratch will hit the screen.

I will checkout this monitor as well. I have heard though that the 5d doesn’t output hd 1920×1080 out from the hdmi port. Is this true?

How is the Flanders monitor in bright sunshine? Any ideas about a good outdoor portable hd monitor?

Yes that is a good choice.

Other times when I need the name of a person large and their title, or position in a company as smaller font under their name, I have found that Impact works well for the name, and Bank Gothic adds a nice contrast in type font.

Usually what I do for backup of cards is to create a directory on it’s own project hard drive and have a matching folder for original footage and transcoded footage

For example:

Client #1 hard drive
-Originals
-Sept 24 Footage
-Card 1
-Card 2
-Sept 25 Footage
-Card 1
-Card 2
-Card 3

-Transcodes
-Sept 24 Footage
-Card 1 Trans
-Card 2 Trans
-Sept 25 Footage
-Card 1 Trans
-Card 2 Trans
-Card 3 Trans

I copy the full card including all folders on the camera to EX: Sept 24 Card 1, and then card 2, 3 ETC.

Once this is copied I transcode the footage using Mpeg Stream Clips to the Transcode folder.

Once this is transcoded I copy the full hard drive to a backup drive and store in a firesafe.
Always have a backup with Cards! and always keep both the originals and transcoded. If your footage didn’t transcode properly at least you have the originals.

Hey,

Use mpeg stream clips to transcode the footage to for example: proress
In final cut import footage put all your footage on the timeline and then go to export using compressor. In compressor select dvd best quality 90mins (or which ever length your maximum amount of footage is. Hit submit and you will have proper 16:9 SD video for Dvd that can be imported into DVD studio Pro and then burn’t
