What’s your favourite Title / Lower 3rd Font?
I use Helvetica Neue so much on my titles – clean, modern etc. I know I should be experimenting more with other fonts, but there never seems to be time to play around and I seem to play too safe because I know it works. Would be really interested to know what you guys use – what works on small and large text – for modern and classic. Care to share?

Same as you. Sometimes Grot Rough, Trixie for some of the environmental programming, but for me, clean is good.

Helvetica Neue is the house style at my place of work Martin. And for what it’s worth I also like it just fine … Is it that conformity that’s making you want to experiment or are your clients complaining?

Futura is one of my all-time favorite fonts. It is also really good for when you need to fit a lot of letters in a small space.

Hi Andy – haven’t had any complaints – I just worry that I’m not pushing the creative boundries and being too formulaic sometimes!

Some fonts that you might have to purchase, MetaPlus is cool and I like DIN schrift.

I don’t really have a favorite typeface — branding or design requirements should determine your selection.
I’ve set my share of type in Helvetica Neue, too, but some other frequently-used typefaces include (in no particular order) Frutiger, Avenir, Interstate, DIN, Meta, Akzidenz Grotesk, Univers, Trade Gothic, Myriad, Gill Sans, and Lubalin. Some are system fonts, and some must be purchased separately. They’ve all got different character (so to speak), and what’s appropriate for one production may not be appropriate for another.
Of course, you can always spot a lazy editor by their selection of Lucida Grande, the default face in FCP’s text generators…

We also use Helvetica for our titles and our clients actually complain if we change anything. For many of our long standing clients different is not always better.
