It sounds like they are not rendered in the timeline.

Also to note, displays are notorious for adding artificial artifacts to the signal path. Especially SD programming. I’ve watched my projects on all kinds of Projectors (I have a $10K Marantz VP12S4 DLP that looks amazing) Remember, there are many different types of Projectors; LCD, LCoS, DLP. They all have their strengths and weaknesses. I’ve had to explain over and over to clients why it looks great when we edit, but crappy on their cheap home systems.

Is Leopard 10.5.2 OK to install yet? There was a lot of talk about not upgrading to 10.5 with FCP 6.0.2 as there was too many problems.

First off, most of us do ‘all-nighters’ to get projects finished on-time. Welcome to the club. haha! Four 90 min programs is a lot of work!

Question, are you exporting directly from FCP or exporting as a Reference file and then importing that into Compressor? Exporting as Reference is faster (Not sure why?) 5 Hours for a 90 min show seems a tad long, but maybe not with only 2GB RAM. What compressor does is do the one part first, for example audio then video, that’s why it starts off fast, then slows down.

My suggestion is to Export and go buy some RAM today. Good luck.

For what it’s worth. I had a render crash issue. My problem was a bad memory chip. Kinda’ a pain to track as you have to pull each one and try the render.

Using Compressor worked great. You can do batches. I did like 10 shots. I just let it run while I was out. It took about 3 hours.

That’s on my list of future purchases. But, what about now? What’s the best way to make my SD footage look good in an HD timeline?

Can’t. I only have analog component in using AJA IoLa. I do have a Kona 3 too but only for digital I/O

When someone sends you an MP3 file and you have to use it, you don’t have a choice.

My question is why is the FCP conversion so bad, when Episode or Cleaner’s conversions sounds fine.
