  • I agree, Apple’s DVD Studio Pro is the best. But, if your on a tight budget or only do very basic authoring, Apple’s iLife has iDVD (It even uses the same MPEG encoding as DVDSP) It’s pretty darn amazing for practically no money.

I used it for quite a while until I got DVDSP.

I third the request to be able to name while digitizing. Even my old Media 100 would do that too.

Another workaround is to get one of the cheapo Ratshack video transmitters and a little portable LCD TV. Feed the TC window display output to it, and monitor it upstairs.

Not the best fix, but you can also watch Oprah during your downtime.

M100 can still be a good money maker for Boris. They throw a few engineers with knowledge of M100 at it. Put out an update with a couple of new bells-whistles, then charge all the current owners a ton for the update. Win-win for them.

    Walter,

Please point me to some bad reviews of SATA Raids? I’ve read only great things. (Except for some physical drives that are flakey (the Hitachi’s are rock solid) I’ve had my SATA Firmtek/Hitachi Raid for a while and it has been perfect. I have seperate replaceable drives for each client and it’s been flawless.

The replaceable drives is the only way to go. Perfect for multiple clients. Just pop them out, store them and when you need to go back, put them in and your up and running instantly. And at a price of about $250 for two 250gig drives, it’s very cost effective to have a set for each major client.

    Thanks!

Look into a SATA Raid. Cheap, dependable and super-fast!

Here’s a great link for info.

I’ve worked on both monitors and find CRT’s still a better choice. I know, many will disagree, but myself, I do a lot of Photoshop & After-Effects work. And I do depend on the image on the computer screens being accurate while working, before I see the final result displayed on the NTSC monitor later.

September 14, 2005 at 1:01 pm in reply to: SATA Raid for M100 HD?

I have the Firmtek Seritek 1SEN2 with 2 Hitachi 7K250’s and I have read that using two cards/housings will not gain any speed advantages. Read this, there’s tons of good info, especially on some brand drive issues…

But, it’s still great to just pull the drives and swap them for additional storage.

I have the cheaper Sony FX1 HDVcam and it inputs natively. No conversion at all. That was another reason I went FCP over M100HD.
