What I’d like it a little more information displayed. Unless I’m having another blind day that is.

I’d like to be able to see the time-code of the deck while it’s going through it (the deck’s in a machine room downstairs) and I’d also like something similar to Avid with the “6 done, 0 skipped and 10 to go for about 20 minutes..” would be really helpful I think.

There’s a good chance I’m missing either something really obvious with a setting, or just looking in the wrong place, but I’d like a little more info when capturing.

A big time-code window (again, similar to one on Avid) which displays the programme duration etc would also be really helpful, rather than the tabs on the canvas window (I like to have the TC window open in Avid on the bin monitor for the client to look at and reference lots of things like programme duration and what the TC of a clip we’re looking at currently is.

Again, I know that I’m asking for stuff that’s on Avid. I’m still not comparing – I’m just saying that if this kinda feature was brought to FCP, it’d be EVEN more well rounded.

    Have a nice day.

    John

[John Steventon] “I’d like to be able to see the time-code of the deck while it’s going through it (the deck’s in a machine room downstairs)”

Switch the Display characters “on” on the DECK so you can see the TC display on the deck’s monitor.
We have done this with machine room decks since long before FCP.

    Hi,

The ‘super’ output of the DigiBeta deck isn’t patched up to the edit suite unfortunately. All monitoring is just done through the SDI input/output from the multi-bridge. So apart from chaining another monitor/cable upstairs (something I don’t want to get into (due to having to tear down walls…)) I guess I’ll just live with the lack of TC information. Pity.

Another workaround is to get one of the cheapo Ratshack video transmitters and a little portable LCD TV. Feed the TC window display output to it, and monitor it upstairs.

Not the best fix, but you can also watch Oprah during your downtime.

I’ve got a script boy (which as been renamed a script girl by the PA) working off radio mic feeds which I could send upstairs I guess. To be honest, I can live without it, it’s just a thought for things I think would make an already good system more user friendly.

Thanks for all the feeback though.

Good requests. I too would like to see TC rolling as we digitize.

Add to that the ability to type in description as it’s digitizing. Discreet had that for years, new NLE’s (velocityHD) still don’t have it. I wonder what the voodoo was that allowed only Edit to do this? 🙂

Also the tab order needs work. If you tab… tab… to the Description, tab down to the next field, forget something and shift tab it doesn’t go up a box it goes ‘somewhere else’.

Monitoring of audio downstream with levels is on my wishlist but I can live without that, and I know of a workaround using the Mac internal speakers. Whatever, all hacks to me.

Amen Brother. It is really nice to see the highlighted clips of the remaining clips to be captured tick away. The ability to comment while your digitizing is really nice too. One day Avid and Apple will become great lovers and work together in a beautiful symbiotic relationship without any lawsuits or fist fights. One day…..

I third the request to be able to name while digitizing. Even my old Media 100 would do that too.
