I hate to say it, but it might be worth more just to keep your system. In the event that M100/Boris comes out with some new system in the future worth buying, if you still own yours, you could get a upgrade price on the new system. Of course that’s just speculation, but the way things move in this biz, you never know.
I’m hanging on to my system just for that reason. The $200 you get on ebay, might be worth $1000’s if there’s an upgrade special for existing owners. Just a thought.

February 15, 2006 at 8:20 pm in reply to: Public Health warning: 10.4.5 available if you dare!!!Thought I might pass along a little thing that just happened to me. I was getting crashes in FCP a little too often (Usually with long renders). Everything else ran and worked fine, except long renders.
It turned out that I had a bad RAM chip. I pulled pairs and test rendered until I found the bad chip. Then… ‘walla’ no crashes! I replaced it and life is all good again.
Also, what was weird was when I checked Apple system info, all the RAM was showing up. But, when rendering, I assume FCP would use most of the RAM and some info would hit the bad chip and crash the system.

If they need work, you can export each slide and then clean them up in Photoshop. Most PP authors don’t consider going to video, so the type is usually too small or too close to the edges.
If you need the PP transitions, try apple Iworks. I just bought it and it can export a movie with transactions intact – very cool.

You have to select the ‘Timeline’ and/or the ‘Bins’ before batch digitizing to have the footage link. If you just select the bins, then the footage won’t link to that sequence.

It depends on whether you are doing serious diaglog/music editing and mixing or just roughing tracks in. Many people over look a big issue, Ambient Noise. The first thing to start with is placement of the gear. Is the Mac and the loud hard drives all together right at your edit position? If it is, then serious audio editing is pretty much moot. You really need to place all this noisy gear in either a seperate room or in a ventilated rack cabinet. Only then can you really trust your mixing.
Quality speakers I have and recommend are Genelec and Tannoy. Both are great for natural, accurate sound and imaging. Also size is another thing to consider. Sat/Sub vs. Full-range. I’ve received videos that have horrible low-end rumble that the editors never heard when they were mixing due to their small speakers not revealing low-frequency problems.

December 16, 2005 at 2:56 pm in reply to: Media 100 XS P6000 w/DV option Software V7.03 and BOB on ebay NO RESERVE$500. Unbelievable. I just can’t let myself sell my system for that. I’m just letting it collect dust in a box. Maybe someday Boris will come out with a new system that’s hot and great again, and we’ll be able to upgrade at a discount.

I’m current 5.0.3 on a G5 DP 2.7. Nick’s suggestion above does work. So, Chalk that up as a ‘bug’.
