I was interested in your post above, but after I put the dup’d clip above and added Gaussian blur, how do Enable the ‘Composite’ mode? Where do find that function? I under what it is (as in Photoshop) but I cannot find that in FCP.

With the amazing things you can do in post with plug-ins, I don’t use my filters anymore. All effects are added later. That’s gives so much more creative latitude, plus, doesn’t lock you into permanently having soft footage when (and they always do) you’re clients want to re-use the shots for another project.
Saying that, I have a set of Tiffen Black ProMist that are very nice. I have a full set, but usually only used the 1/2 or 1.

Oh, I meant to open your pdf. file in Apple’s Preview, and use the box tool there, not in Acrobat.

Try this. Open the file, use the box tool and crop the area you want to copy, copy it and paste it into Photoshop. Note: Some files are locked and you cannot do this.

If you digitize with the Kona3 card (DVCProHD codec) vs. Firewire (HDV codec), then editing/layoff is easier and faster as there is no FCP conforming, which can take quite a bit of render time on a long project.

Seems like I remember you must still have a video signal being fed into your Io. (Even if you are only capturing audio.) Try that.

It looks like they went into Photoshop and cut out the elements and then in After Effects or FCP re-layered them. When they are still images they are usually very large, so there’s plent of room to zoom/move on them. The one tricky part is they may have cloned some of the background to remove the people.

Do you have Photoshop or After Effect? You can build it easy with those programs. Do a search on the forum, I think there’s been threads on this subject. Try adding scan-lines, noise to the image and even a glare/reflection spot, all that helps the illusion.
Another way to make it truly realistic is to play the clip on a monitor and re-shoot it with a camera. I do that all the time and it looks great. Plus, you can do moves, swishes or zoom into parts of the frame for effect.
