    The DT-V24G1Z fixes the off-axis viewing issue earlier JVCs had by using an IPS LCD Panel. Also, this monitor is native 1920×1080.

  • Did this exact thing using VirtualVTRs. Used the free remote App that can control up to 4 VirtualVTRs. To control more then for you need the Sienna version. I also like Telestream’s Pipeline but I wonder if one Mac can capture more then one stream at a time. If not, then you still need one machine per stream and a NAS or SAN to capture to the same volume.

    September 25, 2008 at 5:59 pm in reply to: EX3 codec for FCP 6.1

    FCP 6.0.2 and beyond work with the Sony XDCAM software which you need to install.

    https://www.apple.com/support/releasenotes/en/Final_Cut_Pro_6.0_rn/
    Final Cut Pro 6.0.2 includes support for the Sony XDCAM EX format, but it requires the installation of the Sony XDCAM Transfer software and an XDCAM EX plug-in. For more information about this software, go to the Sony website at https://www.sony.com/xdcam.

    Final Cut Pro includes the following 1080-line XDCAM EX Easy Setups:

    * XDCAM EX 1080p24 VBR
    * XDCAM EX 1080p25 VBR
    * XDCAM EX 1080p30 VBR
    * XDCAM EX 1080i50 VBR
    * XDCAM EX 1080i60 VBR

    Final Cut Pro also includes the following 720-line XDCAM EX Easy Setups:

    * XDCAM EX 720p24 VBR
    * XDCAM EX 720p25 VBR
    * XDCAM EX 720p30 VBR
    * XDCAM EX 720p50 VBR
    * XDCAM EX 720p60 VBR

    Important: A separate plug-in from Sony is required to enable these features.

    Connecting an XDCAM EX Camcorder or SxS Card to Your Computer

    You can mount XDCAM EX media on your computer desktop by doing one of the following:

    * Connect the camcorder to your computer with a USB cable.
    * Insert an SxS card directly into the ExpressCard/34 PCMCIA slot in a MacBook Pro computer.

    When connecting an XDCAM EX camcorder to your computer, you must set the camcorder to target device mode. See the manual that came with your camcorder for instructions.
    Working with XDCAM EX Footage

    Once you ingest your XDCAM EX footage to QuickTime media files on your scratch disk, you can simply choose the XDCAM EX Easy Setup that corresponds to your footage and edit as you would with any other native format in Final Cut Pro.

    Rendering and conforming XDCAM EX media works in the same way as HDV and XDCAM HD rendering and conforming.

    June 24, 2008 at 1:51 pm in reply to: FibreMAX support???

    The two companies that can help are either GMAX or AC&NC. The former is ProMax’s storage division that spun off and the latter distributes the box FibreMax is based on.

    I agree with Shane. I like to be able to call Tech Support if something goes wrong. The warranty is also usually longer when you buy a populated enclosure.

    August 28, 2007 at 9:45 pm in reply to: AoE Storage Array

    Rick,

    The last I saw Small-Tree is not pursuing AoE. They are going the iSCSI route. An iSCSI SAN is good for uncompressed SD and compressed HD formats. MetaSAN is great for uncompressed HD and beyond. How many editing rigs do you need to connect? Another option is to capture locally and “push” the media to central storage via Gig-E. Once there it is easy to back up to tape or a virtual tape libary.

    May 23, 2007 at 3:11 pm in reply to: Video Editing over Gig E

    Very interesting question.

    Usually you cannot capture directly over Gig-e just using TCP/IP without the aid of a TOE or another protocol such as iSCSI. A NAS is great as a central repository where you can push/pull files. This is a very common practice. As a side note, using Fibre Channel storage in a NAS is a good investment since it can be used an a SAN at a later date. The problem with NAS is the high amount of overhead with the TCP/IP protocol.

    However there are solutions for capturing to a NAS. Ones I’ve installed are and work well:

    Editshare / LANshare (uses TOE)
    GlobalSAN – Uses iSCSI

    I’m also going to test the Rorke Galaxy NAS.

    Feel free to email/call direct.
