  • AJA IO: FCP cannot find IO on it’s own

Posted by Adam Vincent on August 28, 2007 at 6:53 pm

When I launch FCP, open a project and hit the space bar, I get the beachball. I have to refresh audio/video devices to get playback. This happens randomly while in the middle of projects as well. I can also click on the desktop and then back to FCP and get playback or launch another application and quit it, and get playback. ..but everytime I start FCP I have to do one of these things to get playback. Playback seems to be the only thing effected.

I’ve been talking with AJA, but they’re at a loss at the moment.

    Here’s what I’ve tried:
    Swapped with another IO
    swapped firewire cables and ports
    reinstalled IO drivers
    zapped PRAM
    Rebuilt permissions
copied media to system drive and played from there
    G5 firmware is 5.1.4f0

    any ideas?

I posted this on the IO forum as well.

Did you by any chance connect the Io to the G5 while the Io was powered on? Could cause an issue with or even fry your Firewire port.

So this problem doesn’t occur when the iO is not connected? Are you viewing through an external monitor? Have you trashed the FCP preferences? Any other iO prefs? Does this happen with other users?

    Any other firewire device connected?

    Adam,

Had many crashes? Have you run Disk Warrior on your boot up drive? How long has it been since you have reinstalled OS & FCP? How much free hard drive space do you have on your media drives?

Ernesto has a good point, make sure no other fire wire devices are on the fire wire bus.

Well, looks like my problem was QT 7.2. I had to do an archive install of the OS to get rid of it. So far so good, but I had to re-install all my drivers…ugh!
