I’m not totally sure I understand what you’re trying to do but if you are trying to just move a section of the particles and not affect the others then you might try pre-comping the particles and using the puppet tool to animate the movement.

What format is the video and audio? If it’s h.264, mp4, mp3 audio or some other highly compressed format then that’s most likely the problem. To fix this you would probably need to convert the video to a more editing-friendly format and then replace the footage in AE.

Are you pre-comping the footage? If so, when you slow the footage to half speed you will need to increase the comp length to double its original length or you will only see the first half of the clip. Cmd/Ctrl+K brings up the comp settings window. If that’s not it then maybe provide more details.

I did something like this for our company but it was just 2D. One thing that saved a ton of time was using the compsfromspreadsheet script to automatically create the comps for each employee by replacing the photo and text. The only caveat is that you can’t have any typos or it will fail.

You can do that by pre-comping your text move, then make the comps 3d and arrange in the box or whatever shape you want them to follow. Use masks to trim the edge of the pre-comp where the intersections are located.

Be sure that text is converted to outlines and that each shape is on its own layer and import into AE as a composition (retain layer sizes option is usually best). Then open the composition, select the layers and go to layer>create shapes from vector layer. Then of course make them 3D, set up your lights, camera, etc.

I’ve done this a few times by setting up expression-linked cameras and even used the sphere effect to create an environment, but that’s a very clever and quick way to do it. I’m stealing that one!

There’s no direct way that I know of to do that but you could create a 3D null and orient it how you want and parent the layer to that and just use the null to control the layer. OR you could set the X orientation of the layer to 90 degrees, pre-comp choosing “move all attributes” and then turn on the collapse transformations and 3D layer switches for the pre-comp and change it’s X orientation to -90 degrees.
