OK, I’m stupid – I assumed Roland’s link was to this article from a couple of days ago and didn’t know about that new video. WOW! That’s really cool! I can’t believe how fast it is either. Can’t wait to try it out.

Yeah, when I heard about the 3D integration in CS6 I thought that’s it for Zaxwerks, game over man! But no, like you said, the capabilities, speed and ease of use still make invigorator/proanimator two of the best options for quick and easy 3D stuff. Looking forward to seeing what Element is all about though. BTW, check out the interview with Zax Dow on motionworks unplugged if you have a chance. He says they’re working on adding raytracing for the next release.

That’s a script, not a plug-in. You just copy it to the ScriptsUI folder and restart AE.

July 2, 2012 at 10:01 pm in reply to: Want to blur distracting background behind interview subjectYou’re on the right track. It’s called “rotoscoping” and you can find quite a few tips and tutorials on the subject here and elsewhere. Basically, it’s just drawing masks and keyframing but if you’re new to it then you should definitely study up on it first to save you some time and headaches.

I’m a little leary of posting my email on a public forum, even this one, but you can upload it to this dropbox:

Just found out the shortcut to reveal the layer source in the project window is alt+numpad enter. Even faster!
-
Here’s what I do:
– In your main comp, select the pre-comp you want to duplicate and hit ctrl/cmd+D to duplicate it.
– With the duplicated pre-comp layer selected, right-click on the layer and choose “reveal layer source in project”.
– Hit ctrl/cmd+D to duplicate the pre-comp in the project window and then alt+drag the duplicated comp into the comp viewer window to replace the layer and then hit enter to open the pre-comp.– Select the pre-comp layer inside of that pre-comp, right-click on the layer and choose “reveal layer source in project”.
– Hit ctrl/cmd+D to duplicate the pre-comp in the project window and then alt+drag the duplicated comp into the comp viewer window to replace the layer and then hit enter to open the pre-comp.
– Make whatever changes you want.
– Ctrl/cmd+W two times to close the two open pre-comps and return to your main comp.I do this all the time and with a little practice it’s very quick and easy. As long as you name the comps with a two-digit suffix on the end it will increment the comp names correctly when you duplicate them.
There is also a script called True Comp Duplicator from aescripts.com that duplicates comps and their sub-comps that they contain.

June 30, 2012 at 5:20 pm in reply to: Stop Motion Question | After Effects or Photoshop? The link you posted doesn’t work but if I understand your question then what you are trying to do is called “wire removal” and there is a ton of information out there. Just google “after effects wire removal”.

If you want to upload one of the files I’ll take a look at it for you.
