timewarp in after effects
Hi,
I’m using the timewarp effect in after effects to slow down some footage. Something i didn’t understand is that the layer length stays the same when you adjust the speed. Surely if you adjust the speed to 50% the length of the clip will double? Or if you adjust it to 25% the length of the clip will quadruple etc. Instead it stays the same length slowing down the footage but deleting the later half. Ive had a mess around and cant figure out what the hell you do to include that later part of the footage in the timewarp. Am i missing something to how the effect works? Can someone help?

Are you pre-comping the footage? If so, when you slow the footage to half speed you will need to increase the comp length to double its original length or you will only see the first half of the clip. Cmd/Ctrl+K brings up the comp settings window. If that’s not it then maybe provide more details.

The timewarp effect will NOT change the length of the layer that you APPLY it to. THis is obviously a problem if you slow footage down using Timewarp, your footage will run out before the layer end. There are TWO ways to fix this:
1) Precomp the layer, and then apply timewarp to the Precomp in the original composition – set the precomp length to be long enough to encompass all the video that you are slowing down.
OR
2) In “Interpret footage” LOOP the footage several times, so that it will make a longer layer to begin with, then when you apply the slomo TimeWarp, you will have enough room to see the full footage.
