Wow, very cool John, the particular effects are very good! Did you make the glowing orb effects with particular? The cinematography in this video is excellent as well. I love the animated mouthpiece on the lead singer. Just curious, we’re the costumes with the white helmets a Spaceball’s reference? 🙂

I don’t know of a way to control the speed of the particles individually, but one thing you might try is to pre-compose the particle animation and then use time remapping on the pre-comp to control the speed of the particles.

Once you set the continuously rasterize switches for your layers you can use the Scale Composition script. Go to File>Scripts>Scale Composition and then enter the new comp dimensions or scale factor, which in your case would be 1.5.

I’m not sure which effects you’re referring to but the ones that seemed to be used the most throughout the video Appeared to be the glitch, light leak, and RGB shift effects. You can do a search for those terms and it should pull up a lot of information. HTH

I did this is a couple minutes with the settings below applied to a solid in Multiply mode over an orange solid background layer. Since you just want them black and white you could just use Fractal Noise on a solid. Play around with the settings and you might get something you like.

July 20, 2013 at 7:47 pm in reply to: Changing from Composition to Retain Layer Size Afterwords…?There’s no easy way that I know of BUT you can import another copy of the layered file (PSD?) with “retain layer size” selected and then replace all of the layers in your original comp manually. You’ll have to select each layer in the original comp and then go to the project panel and find the corresponding layer in the new comp’s layers folder and then Alt+drag and drop the new layer onto the old layer in the timeline or the comp viewer window to replace it(shortcut is Ctrl/Cmd + Alt/Opt + /). When you do this the layer will jump to a new position since it’s not the same size as the original layer so you’ll then have to open up the newly imported composition, select the corresponding layer in there, copy its position and then paste it onto the layer in the original comp. It works, but it’s a little tedious. HTH

Mattew’s suggestion is the first thing I would check, just move the flickering layers like the collar in front of the other layers by a pixel or two. The other thing it could be is if you have any layer styles applied to 3D layers it can cause weird flickering problems in the render. It’s been an issue since CS3 and still hasn’t been fixed.

I’m not sure I understand, could you give a little more info? What are the media placeholders? Video clips? Can you just replace them with longer video clips if that’s what you are going to use? You can replace layers by selecting the layer in the timeline and then alt/option + drag and drop from the project panel onto the layer or into the comp viewer.
